My EV journey began with the 2022 F150 Lightning.
When the time and market is right, more to come.

My pipeline was other F150s. Years before the Lightning was announced I was under my 2010 F150 Lariat for an oil change . While waiting for the oil to drain and avoiding the scolding hot catalytic converter I was inspecting the transmission tail piece and drive shaft that I had replaced in a previous F150. That's when it occurred to me that a battery under the cab would allow me to spend less time under my truck.

Needless to say, I put a deposit on a Lightning minutes after Ford started taking them.

That said, my next daily driver will be a truck. Hopefully it's electric, but the current lineup of EV trucks is underwhelming. Maybe Ford will make another full sized EV truck at some point. The good news is my current vehicle should last a long time.

2015 - Used 2005 Escape Hybrid with 179k miles on it. My most fiscally responsible car ownership ever
2017 - Pacifica Hybrid @Aminorjourney I remember watching your YouTube review on it around that time
2017 - eGolf
2018 - Pacifica Hybrid (2017 was bought back Lemon Law)
2019 - eGolf to replace the 2017 - traded in the 2017 with $2,000 for the new one
2020 - Pacifica Hybrid - traded in the 2018 with $1,500 for the new one
2021 - Used 2001 John Deere Gator
2022 - F 150 Lighting

I've loved each of these cars - except the experience of the 2017, we had it for 5 weeks than it sat on the dealer lot for 2 months. I plan to pick up a used eGolf in a few years when the kids get to driving age. The Gator is great too. Replaced the lead acid batteries with LFP batteries from 2013 and they are still holding strong!

The only thing that sucks about the last 9 years of owning EVs is that all the tools I've invested in to work on my car just sit there looking sad.

  • Tinkered with electric bicycles in the 1980s.
  • Car buff since the 1980s.
  • Tried to get ahold of the EV1, but wasn’t in the right state and didn’t have enough money.
  • Tried to get a Rav4 EV, but again wasn't in the right state.
  • Finally bought a Gen-1 Prius in 2002.
  • Owned several Prii over the decades
  • Bought/Sold/gave a handful of Prii to family as they decided they wanted to convert to hybrids and we found a good deal for a new/refreshed Prius.
  • The vagaries of vehicular needs led us away from hybrids for a short period.
  • Put in a reservation for a Lightning on reveal day
  • Got impatient while waiting and sold our Golf Alltrek for more than we bought it for and bought a Mustang Mach-E
  • The Lightning was ready to order, but MSRP was $25k more than we had anticipated, so we dropped the reservation.
  • Took at 2200 mile road trip in our Tacoma and hated every yard.
  • Started looking for BEV trucks to replace the Tacoma. Almost went with an R1T, but it was so, so expensive.
  • Traded the Tacoma in for a 2023 Lightning in early 2024. We got the Lightning for a song (and the Tacoma).
  • Never going back to gassy vehicles.
I guess it IS Prii?

Got the itch in '19 or so to get an e-Golf to go along with my '80 Rabbit, but then noticed that the 2020 Bolts had some cheap leases, so picked up a Bolt LT for $245/mo on a lease to dip my toes in.

Kept that for about 2 years while I placed the reservation at the initial announcement for the Lightning as I enjoyed the cost savings at the time and wanted it's replacement to be a full size truck while also being electric.

Lots of hand-me-down cars before I started working. First purchase was a 1995 Explorer in 2000. Totalled responding to a fire call and got a 1996 to replace it. Daily driver until 2006. Got my only brand new car then. A Subaru Outback Sedan (yes, it was a thing). Wife liked my Subaru and got a 2015 Forester. We swore to only get AWD/4wd after that. Built the 1996 Explorer into an off-road rig. Handed my son the keys to the 06 Subaru in August when he got his license, and had been looking for a LONG time at some type of EV. We started test driving Teslas when my son was around 7 or so. It was out of reach for me at the time. Test drove the Fisker Ocean a year or two ago and knew it had to be an EV. Lots of test drives from Kia, Ford, Hyundai, and found my Lightning during that process. It was a 2024 left-over that sat, unsold, and had 84 miles when I test drove it in August. Came home with it a week later. My only regret is that my firefighter plates didn't transfer from the Explorer because of a different vehicle class!

I'm not going to bore everyone with my list of vehicles since 1976... Ok, yes I will.

- 1973 Pontiac Grand Safari Wagon (455 under the hood, got something like 8 miles to the gallon). Parent's car.
- 1976 Datsun B210
- 1978 Datsun 280Z (loaned by my father while mine was in the shop, then he divorced my mother and I kept it...)
- 1981 Chevrolet Malibu Classic
- 1982 Jeep CJ7
- 1985 Nissan Stanza
- 1989 Plymouth minivan
- 1993? Mazda Protege'
- 1998 Ford Explorer
- 1998 Chrysler Town and Country minivan
- 2007 Dodge minivan
- 2010 Ford Fusion Hybrid
- 2013 Ford F-150
- 2018 Ford Fusion Energi
- 2021 Ford Mach-E
- 2022 Ford Mach-E (sold 2021 for profit)
- 2022 Ford Lightning (bought in 2023)

I put a deposit down on the Lightning reservation when it was announced, the Mach-E wasn't of interest at first because my wife drove the other vehicle and the Fusion Energi was working fine for her and relatively new. Then when we went to replace the Fusion Energi in 2021, Ford had discontinued it, so I ordered a Mach-E for late in the year. Weeks later the same one was on the lot, so we bought that. Our order came in 50 weeks later as a 2022, so we took it and sold the 2021 for a profit. Then the Lightning order went away (Ford raised prices several times), so we got our deposit back. Kept wanting one, wife said no, then one day she gave in, and my months and months of tracking available trucks paid off and in May 2023 I flew to St. Louis and got picked up by the dealership 90 minutes away to drive the truck home. Then 7 months later sold the gas F-150.

Always needed a truck (gentleman's farm); had a 2019 Niro PHEV and loved it. Wife wanted red so the 2023 Niro PHEV is red. Gave the truck (2000 Ranger 3.0) to the son in law and towed it to NY with my new to me '23 Powerboost. There was a lot to like about the powerboost but IMHO Ford did not do well with the 10 speed and the hybred. I didn't trust eather. Meanwhile I towed my daughter's very tired 2012 Leaf back to VA and between the Plug ins, my EGo electric mower and the Leaf, I was sold on EVs. Test drove the '25 Flash and bought it on the spot. I usually research the he'll out of vehicle purchases but jumped on this. Probably gave up the red I wanted and the 131KWH battery but have been quite pleased. Would trade the Niro on a Tesla or a Mach E but the Niro only has 45K on it so has a lot left.

I am not a climate zealot and go electric for its practicality alone. I still have a lot of ICE in a side by side, a tractor and an old Miata.

We went to test drive a hybrid Maverick a month ago and we also test drove a Lightning. I considered a Maverick because I wanted an efficient, cost effective truck. We were really enamored with how quiet and smooth the Lightning was. We considered a lot of other options but the Lightning interested me the most for the overall package of features and capabilities. Once I worked out how I could get a Lightning with the features I wanted and a cost I was comfortable paying, I went with it. While I've aspired to own an EV for a long time, I've never even ridden or driven in an EV before.

I got the Jaguar second-hand under their CPO program and I ended up here in the Lightning after nearly 4 years, many trials and tribulations and a lengthy global manufacturer's buyback campaign.

I managed to get one with a little bit of good luck but I'm fortunate and grateful to have managed to acquire one - it is the best EV ever built.

The wife and I had always had Toyota vehicles, loved then, and still do, but....
I am a traveling vehicle inspector in CA, and I often rack up 200 miles in a day, the wife travels 50 miles a day to work, and CA gas prices are ridiculous. We did the math, and we basically worked it out that we would both nearly receive free vehicles if we switched to EV due to paying gas VS charging at home. In addition, I am able to get a tax credit at 54 cents a mile for my job. So we looked at many different EVs, and being that I needed a truck, the Lightning was the best choice... While we were at the Ford dealership, the wife loved the MachE Premium, we ended up with both of them!
Both are 24s, and after 30k miles on my Lightning and 15k on the MachE, I can honestly say that not only did we make the right choices, but we are both extremely happy with them still. In addition, neither of us want to ever go back to a Ice vehicle again either.
The decision to purchase them both was a financial decision, not related to saving the planet, political views, etc. If it helps the planet... Great!... If it doesn't, were probably not doing more damage than our old vehicles!
EVs are the way to go for so many other reasons, but media, politics and rumors really hurt the uneducated on them.
Rant over!..... But yeah, that's how I got my Lightning... And MachE!

Very impressive all of you! I'm new to the EV market (purchased my '23 Lariat ER in June of 2024). And I love it.

My first car was a 1967 Saab I got in '76, 3-cylendar, 2-cycle, eventually after seizing up the 2nd crankshaft (oil injector pump conked out) I moved up to a new Honda. Long story short I eventually needed a truck so went through a couple of Chevys. Now I finally have a car that has amazing power.

I really want an electric mower/tractor, I live with trees dropping around me all the time so always out there cutting/towing/mowing ... and I hate either having to crank it up again or leaving it idling and making noise! I see @Mal106 has an eGo, any recommendations?

I also have bought a bunch of my brothers' old cars rather than them trading them in. 200x Mercedes S500, had a V8 that would make you fly, and the tires would wear out after 9,000 miles. Had fun with that. The current one is a BMW PIH, but we just jump in the Lightning, it's so nice to drive, and it cost less than the BMW. Even going full electric there we get 17-20 miles on the 10kWh.

I plan to continue with BEV. But maybe I can make these 2 vehicles last the next 20 years.

2025 Ford Lightning Flash Job 2 😭
We've seen weeks of power outages after a big storm. Yes weeks, not days (katrina) ripped us hard for example.
Try 3 months, after Laura my electricity wasn't back even on a day before Delta hit, another 6 weeks...my poor Honda inverter generator ran the entire time.

I've wanted an EV for a long time, since the EV1, but this is my first. My only regret is not getting a Platinum.
