  1. Lightning Commuter Mid-winter to early spring 5-month chart on daily distance, kWh used, miles per kWh plus +++

I roll 90 to 100 miles a day 5 days a week. And no real surprises here. Variable speeds per day 50-45-54-55 mph. Hankooks at 40K were toast as in 1/3 really worn to 2/32nds. Replaced them with Michelin Defenders. I roll at 44 psi cause heavy truck. 5 months is about 10k Miles. Red dotted trend...
  2. A Mach-E pulls into a Tesla Supercharger.

PDX Supercharger at Portland (Cascade Station). Two Tesla sedans are charging. I pull in, hook the adapter up, off and running. One Tesla leaves and a Lightning pulls in and hooks up then another Mach E shows up and connects. Another Tesla sedan leaves, another shows up. That’s like 50:50 Ford...
  3. 100K combined miles in my Lightning & Mach E

We’re a two BEV household (not counting the 24’ Sea Swirl and ā€˜41 9N) since ā€˜21-ā€˜23. The Lighting Lariat ER came on board in ā€˜23 and joined the ā€˜21 SR Mach E. Between the two, we’ve rolled 100,000 electric miles. That includes three trips to Montana (1 in the Mach E & 2 by Lightning) as well...
  4. Lightning Commuter Winter Data

I figured there are a few data geeks and I'd thought I'd toss in my December-early February log of miles, miles/kWh, and kWh burned. The red dashed lines are Excel trend lines. I roll about 2K miles a month and this represents about 7,000 miles of my winter commute with occasional longer trips...
  5. 36K mile update.

Rather than a long post I thought to wish you all a good 2025. The truck has been good to me through my daily 90+ mile commute. Only the warranty issues of a BMS module and wonky frunk switch. I’ll get 40K+ out of the Hankooks. Then strap on Michelin Defenders. Average 2.3 miles/kwh winter and...
  6. Show a picture from your daily commute!..

100 miles a day and a lot like this.
  7. EV Adoption by state (map)

https://flip.it/_.lCBk WA looking good! Dakotas & South not so much.
  8. Lightning Commuter: 1 year and 26K on the 2023

Long post. Most those miles are a consequence of my 5 days a week 90-100 mile commute. Since I drive the same route I mess around with speed, tire pressure, driving style, to find a happy medium. One 7 mile section has 3 dozen curves that love a 50 mph power through but that’s 72 tire rounding...
  9. Hah! The S.O. and I rent a Shelby Mach E!

When in Phoenix do something nutty.. Hilarious fun and we reserved a Tesla (not available), then this was suggested. Has the Borla exhaust sound which has the ability to err.. ā€œwake the deadā€. Primarily a Hertz spec appearance package spec’d by Shelby. Really quick & fun to drive down...
  10. LVB battery & BMS saga

My LTE’s BMS started exhibiting some odd behavior 12-2023 that impacted sound system, proximity alarm tone (cold frog), interior lighting, volume control, and a whole gamut of error messages including ā€œaccidental unplugā€, ā€œlow battery-drive carā€, ā€œelectrical system drainā€, etc. The most...
  11. Finally got the BMS replaced.

Been living with that failing sensor since T-Day. Some of the weird consequences: 1) No interior lights on door opening 2) Perimeter alarm sound was akin to a strangled duck. 3) No bass on sound.. really became A.M. sound out of sound system. 4) Volume function became unpredictable with rotary...
  12. Buddy swings by & shows off his new XLT

So he swings by with his XLT ER w/PPOB & Max Tow. Has scales, no bed liner. He’ll put a 3-section tonneau on it. Very nice & great color! Turns out there are 5 LTs in our little county (pop 23,000). His initial comments are on smoothness of ride, quiet, power, ease of use. Currently charging...
  13. 3 years 2 BEVs 80,000 miles

We’ve driven the SR MME and Lightning ER a combined 80K+ miles coming up on 3 years. The MME has 52,000 and the LT 18,000. I roll 2K a month so 80K by July!! The mileage would represent 4000 gallons of gas (20 mpg on the former well driven turbo Flex and V8 Adrenalin) so that’s about $18,000...
  14. Son-in-Law on the bubble!

So he calls me. ā€œJ.C.ā€ he says, ā€œThat LT is wickedā€ā€¦ ā€œWicked fastā€. ā€œWhat do you think (as in me!)ā€. ā€œFirst class leg space in coach!ā€ ā€œYour boys will love it!ā€, ā€œLess gas more fillingā€. ā€œIt’s the future and I’ve access to Superchargers Stations now!ā€. Since he’s a coach and drives...
  15. 2 friends call me on my opinion. 1 new purchase w/in 2 weeks.

Well, my county’s LT growth went from 2 to 3 šŸ˜‚. A buddy called me after he took a Lariat test drive. What did I think? Well, I said, ā€œafter 16,600 miles in 8 months we’re pretty soldā€. Best all rounder ever and a heck of a fuel savings. He loved the quiet ride, pro power, pro trailer, and...
  16. The tell if Lightning is “on” w/Ford Pass?

I started testing to see how the Lightning responds to be ā€œonā€ (no shut down after 30 minutes). Am I missing something in Ford Pass as I can’t tell its status? I can walk out, look in the driver’s side window and see the dash lit up, hear the ā€œsystem opā€ sounds. Ford Pass doesn’t tell me a thing.
  17. Lightning Commuter LVB to 56% in 6 hours

Daily commute 90-100 miles. 14,700 miles in 7 months. Tuesday morning I noticed a few odd things. Interior lights failed to go on after driver door opened and proximity tone sounded like a dying songbird. I’d been getting electrical drain notices previous week so I began plugging in my Veepeak...
  18. Lightning Commuter 10,000 miles in 5 months.

Heading home at 9,999.9 miles! Long post follows First of all, I enjoy this forum. I learn from other’s experiences. My comments are based on my real world experiences. I’m a conservative driver having learned the hard way in a half-century+ of driving that Easy Does It, I’ve had enough near...
  19. Lightning Commuter’s edible road hazards.

So it’s fall and that means elk, elk in rut, and elk just hightailing it across the state highway whenever they please. A year ago two bulls crossed about 200 yards in front of me at full gallop right to left. A full gallop means 35 mph and they are across the highway in the blink of your eyes...
