It was a toss up between "Lorry (Lori)", "Haulie (Holly)" and "Carry (Carrie)". Settled on Carrie. The kid, however, refuses to respect my right to name the truck I bought, and so he has decided to call it "Bartholomew".
Based on respondents, I am inclined to say that it appears that Lightning's are relatively more common in rural areas and exurbs compared to, say Rivians, and I'll wager, cybertrucks. I think that was partly the intent, too. Obviously Ford wanted to sell as many as they could make, but I also...
Great Question! I am not sure that the real answer is knowable at this point. I expect we will have to wait for enough service records to accumulate to see how prevalent electric motor issues become over time.
But from an engineering perspective, I would expect that the resistance to rotation...
The Lightning (Carrie) was our first EV. We still have a 2015 Mazda CX5, but if the wife gets used to the Lightning, then I expect that it will be replaced with an EV. No rush though, as our Gas usage is now near zero.
I have noticed an uptick in the last few weeks. I guess those November sales are out on the roads now. I had hoped to be the first in town, but I wasn't even the first at my kid's school! I saw one drop off another kiddo this morning. I waved, and got a friendly wave back from the mom.
Are you in a Lightning desert? Or do you see us all around you?
I live in a small town that acts as a business and retail center for a larger rural area that includes a few villages/smaller towns. With only a few thousand residents in the town, I expected to be the lone electric pickup in the...
I love the instinct to mod in a way that makes the truck uniquely yours. I wish it was not potentially dangerous. 147 dB is extremely dangerous. That IS absolutely hearing loss territory. But the one thing that really bugs me is the stated intent, however playful, to punish bad drivers and other...
It's been 10 months since I paid ANY electricity supplier for electrons. I do pay a monthly minimum charge of about $21 for delivery to the power supplier in my area. Here the local aggregate rate is closing in on $0.30 per kWh, so getting solar when I did was a good move. It will be completely...
Battery swaps are DOA. There is too much happening on the research side, and it's happening fast, in regards to battery chemistry and engineering. Battery swap infrastructure, if it started today in the US, would be obsolete before it achieved a break-even point. Batteries will be smaller...
I don't really think about top of the driveway as "remote", but point taken. IMO, cords are a PITA. Easy to fowl, constantly needing to be moved or untwisted. Plus there are issues with power draw vs. (length-of-run X wire gauge) that most consumers just don't understand.
The last car I owned that rusted out was a 1974 Toyota Corolla. Every car since then has been fine at 10 yrs of ownership. During that time, I have lived in various Canadian provinces, Massachusetts and Maine. I had no idea that road salt and frames/bodies are still incompatible. Is there...
