It's a nice idea, but you can only load share when your truck is actually home and plugged in. Any time you're using your truck for transportation, you're still relying on other power sources. In a lot of cases I think this feature would be somewhat under utilized.
A lot of people do not have...
That's exactly what the Pro Power Onboard does with a transfer switch. It's not exactly the same as the HIS, but it provides a lot of the capability for the cost of a $500 transfer switch, receptacle, and wiring to support the 30A capable run back from the truck. At least a few people on this...
Not sure if you quoted me accidentally, but I am not anti-aluminum. This isn't the 70s. :) There is definitely a place for it as long as it's done properly, especially as the cost of copper continues its meteoric rise.
Nice. I am already researching what I can do for the Lightning's stereo. Part of me is glad that I can now afford to do good equipment and not use chopped up extension cords for power/ground/turn-on, but another part of me says my standards now exceed my skills and I should have a good shop do...
If the charge station specifies copper, perhaps a copper pigtail can be used along with a connector made for Al-Cu junctions with anti-oxidant applied. I know I don't want to pay for 50 feet of copper for the 100A circuit.
I wonder what the secondary market will be for the Pro once fleets want to refresh. I'm sure they'll hold a greater percentage of value at the end, but how much more? What should a Pro cost to make it the same value as the other trims if the other trim levels are what they are now?
Range testing is complicated because there are so many variables, and the test is trying to be everything to everybody. Consumers almost exclusively care about range, but charging losses are accounted for because that is the real way to create a parity with total energy usage. This is...
Bingo. With all the variables of the 3rd party charging networks, this is really important. Having this info via the app is also important in case the truck suddenly stops charging or drops to a low rate early on while eating. It happens with Tesla as well. I plugged in and walked away to...
When range really counts, you're likely to be leaving on a trip after fully charging and pre-warming the battery. The battery stays warm throughout the drive even in below freezing temperatures so effective capacity shouldn't be affected in cases where you really need it. Of course regular...
I wonder if we'll see them in the existing platform or if they'll wait for their next platform - either the next truck model or the Lightning refresh.
LFP are long-lasting and are less expensive than NMC (nickel manganese cobalt) or NCA (nickel cobalt aluminum) batteries but they are less...
The Autopian is a great new site. It's made up of all the good people that left Jalopnik, including David Tracy who wrote that article.
Good point about the torque steer. I did not see that mentioned in the other reviews I've watched (Kyle, TFL, Doug).
Interesting comments on the 1 pedal driving. I hope it's not as annoying as he mentions. It is actually one of the better things about driving an EV. Nice to hear that it's quiet and its charging curve is basically flat as a board (to 80%). That said, at 80% my Model has tapered to around...
With Tesla you just need the fob in your pocket to put the car in gear and drive away. No need to place it anywhere.
It'll be interesting to see what happens to the truck when you just leave it without turning it "off." I have a feeling it'll be fine as is and then shut itself off when it...
Many people have mentioned this, but the 3rd party charging networks really need to expand to cover more interstate travel before focusing on urban areas since 85% of EV owners charge at home. This is another reason I opted for the ER battery.
Not sure what your ABRP settings are, but I plan...
That weird 30A 120v RV receptacle is called a TT-30R. I'm guessing this is what RV parks refer to when they say they have "30 amp electric." At least the one I stayed in had a TT-30 and was not a 6-30 or 14-30. Fortunately I didn't really need the juice to get home, and the park owner had a...
