  1. Its been quiet...

All but #3 are in the 2024...how hard can it be to update the older models?
  2. Solar home chargers

Going solar for a home saves you just the cost of the utility-rate power, but going solar to charge your EV instead of paying for gasoline or DCFC typically saves a lot more money faster. We built out our solar in stages over 3-4 years, and did it all ourselves. The Lightning was at the tail...
  3. Ford Universal EV Platform Announced: Innovation Meets Efficiency in New EV Platform, Assembly Process and Midsize Truck

Well, from my point of view, Ford has confirmed continued work in the EV space, and that is a good thing. The whole 3-4 autos that all share a common skateboard we have heard before, and should shave costs and complexity. If Ford had a full EV Ranger now I might have already bought it. It is...
  4. Switching to Chargepoint

The low cost power is a nice bonus, but our motivation was reliability - living rural and running our business next door to our home made a battery-inverter system an easy decision. After seeing how well it supported the shop, we added in the whole house instead of just some critical circuits...
  5. Switching to Chargepoint

And if you added a battery-inverter system (don't even need any solar) your oven would run anytime you like, but be powered by the battery that charges over-night.
  6. Switching to Chargepoint

Interesting how the utilities do different approaches in different markets. I bought two Grizzl-E chargers, and love them. Very solid units for exterior application. Our overnight rate from Hydro-One is 2.8 cents plus delivery and with a solar-ESS for the whole property we never use any...
  7. How to toggle the AVAS/PAC on/off with a physical switch - DIY tutorial

At work-sites I have to have a back up beeper, but at home I prefer to Not have one. This is a great solution for both situations.
  8. Charging While Driving Works w/ Gas Generator in Bed (Range Extending for F-150 Lightning)

The idea of a J1772 in the bed, with a switch/software module to allow charging while driving would be a simple yet effective solution to occational range extension: With the connector and the software, the truck could have a generator or an extra battery pack with inverter, or a cord to a...
  9. Charging While Driving Works w/ Gas Generator in Bed (Range Extending for F-150 Lightning)

Each Pack is 16 x 304Ah cells, weigh a bit over 200 lbs each. and they live in the shop where a forklift or overhead hoist move things around with little effort. I move the packs one at a time, and three fit side by side against the front of the bed well. I didn't "level" the truck, so even...
  10. Charging While Driving Works w/ Gas Generator in Bed (Range Extending for F-150 Lightning)

Lets discuss ! I have this equipment: 3-12kW SRNE 120/240 inverters (two of these run my home and business, one is Spare) 10 - 304Ah 48V LiFePO4 (15kW each) rack batteries But I don't know how this can charge while the truck is moving ? Your bed-attached J1772 port idea has my attention -...
  11. Charging While Driving Works w/ Gas Generator in Bed (Range Extending for F-150 Lightning)

I have toyed with the idea of making a frame for the truck bed to hold 3, 15kWh 48v server rack packs, about 650 lbs. Connected to a typical inverter, this could provide 12kW AC charging source - but how to allow charging while driving is beyond me. The 3 packs at 45kWh of energy storage, or...
  12. Charging While Driving Works w/ Gas Generator in Bed (Range Extending for F-150 Lightning)

The concept: A Lightning pulling a trailer loses too much range to be practical in places where travel trailers/boats are common, but charging infrastructure is not. Possible solutions: extended range battery that fits in the bed. extended range battery that fits between trailer frame rails...
  13. Trip from central MD to OBX & back

In the last pic, the Tesla charger cord is long enough to park in the spot 'normally' and still reach the truck charge port ! - are they changing the cord length on new Tesla stations - updating older (short) cords to longer ones??? Curious minds want to know !
  14. Every receptacle is a potential charging station...

Agreed, I never hesitate to pay, and hope we see more charging options in the future, especially at places where you can kill an hour doing something, or getting a bite to eat.
  15. Lightning Commuter 88 miles a day KWh chart December 2024-July 2025.

I looked up the mileage on line, figured give them the benefit of the doubt. My last truck before the Lightning was 2500 Ram and i was lucky to get 16MPG (18L/100km) If we redo the math using 16mpg 88 miles /16 = 5.5 USG at $2.90/gallon this would be $16/trip. only a dollar less than the...
  16. Every receptacle is a potential charging station...

And it was Free !!! I stopped for a meeting with a gov client a couple weeks ago, they have L2 free charging in the parking lot so I plug in even though the meeting was "supposed to be 1 hour" - some things came up and the meeting went long, and we ordered in some lunch, so I got 4 hours of 30...
  17. Lightning Commuter 88 miles a day KWh chart December 2024-July 2025.

F-150 5-L V8 averages 20mpg = for 88 miles at your $2.90/gal is $12.76 per trip, Using the average of 1.75 mi/kwh for conbined summer/winter and your local 34-cents per kWh you would be $17.09 per trip in the Lightning. Shows just how different the local cost of each 'fuel' affects travel...
  18. After a year and a half.....

Ditto - I forced myself to do this when I got the Lightning, and then a couple times since as I got familiar with the operation and settings. It was a bit of a learning curve but now I know what I can and can't do or change. Next up: review what they change each time there is a OTA update !
  19. I need someone to help me respond to this if possible.

Nice! Our system is 13.8 kw of solar, on SRNE string inverters (two, with a third in the works as we plan expansion of the Solar to 18-19 kw (EVs are hungry loads to feed it seems). For powering up, Air-Con can be a challenge - especially if there is no "soft-start" to lower the in-rush current...
