Thanks for sharing the thought process. Funny, although we live a thousand miles apart, how many of your points line up exactly with mine.
even down to the dreams as a kid !
Enjoy the new wheels, and welcome to the forum.
I bought a super short charge cord and use the slot just to hold the phone, not great thou, sinse you don't get a full clear view of the phone screen - works good enough with car-play.
- my XLT has the slot - did you upgrade from a Pro ?
Hey OP - since you list occupation as Auto tech, can you tell us a bit about what lead you from an ICE pick up to the Lightning? curious on your take from 'the other side' of the sales counter as it were...
I can't say it was simple or easy, and sure isn't common, but going solar with battery backup has been a great experience - the lightning is just part of our conversion to 'on site power generation, storage and utilization'.
For our set up, we use solar-battery-utility-Lightning-dual fuel...
My solar experience since 2021 -
1. add PV to collect more power,
2. add more battery packs to store more power,
3. add more electrical loads to use up excess power,
Repeat.
The Lightning is my most resent Step #3, so now I am back to Step #1 again...for the fifth time...
{3x 12kW-SRNE...
Really great to see the travel was not an issue across the Vast NW plains.
if the trip was done in the reverse order driving East from Montana to ND those head-winds would have been tail-winds and assisted ya?!
Interesting Thread, hope you keep posting how it is handled by Insurance so we can follow along.
Before EV's, insurance would include supply of a similar vechicle while we waited for a repair, recognizing that there is significant cost to providing a temporary form of transportation.
So now...
...yard guy: "Ah what ya doing doing there fella?"
you: "I'm removing all my aftermarket additions from the Lightning because it's a TL"
...yard guy: " are you saying that is an Aftermarket Traction Battery ya got unbolted there?"
you:  maybe...
125/250 50 amp gen plug can be wired for 120v or 240 volt. - see Reliance installation instructions.
120 volt 50 Amp three prong is G-N-L1 (one "hot") - the N-G will not be "internally connected"
250 volt 50 Amp three prong is G-L1-L2 (no Neutral)
The chemistry side of things: the Chargeverter can connect to the DC battery terminals and everything will just 'work'.
ie the battery charges or discharges based on net load.
How this would work with a Powerwall 3 is outside of my experience - the thing to check is how the controls and...
With a Home battery-inverter-solar set up, it is easy to feed the main solar storage battery with a "EG4 Chargeverter" (signature solar or Current connected - and others sell this unit, I have two of them.)
The Chargeverter can be set to use 120v or 240v supply (from your truck) and the...
There seems to be some EV's (NIO) using a combined LFP & NMC battery pack - trying to get the benefits from both chemistries.
The point above about LFP being not fire hazard is not entirely correct, ie LFP if over-charged will release flamable gases like Hydrogen, Carbon-monoxide and Methane...
I bought the net also - but it is too small for some larger items, and too "springy" for things like a lead-acid battery for my lawn tractor...apparently...
I like the look of the Frunk-matt, and would seem like it will not let things slip and slide around so much.
LFP can not be charged - at all - below freezing temps, and should have charging rate reduced as the battery pack approaches freezing temps.
Discharge rate is also reduced near and below freezing temperatures.
LFP is affected by higher temperatures as well, and should not be left for long...
With the acceleration available in the Lightning, this is a good idea for those items that otherwise may move around during 'spirited' driving...ask me how I know !
Actually I put a rubber bed matt in the back for similar reasons...
Living in an area with low cost electricity (2.8C/kWh overnight) and $4USD/USgallon gasoline makes my daily drive less than 1/10th the cost I used to pay for my 2500 Ram, and that is just the fuel...then there was oil, exhaust, brake pads, 'stuff' that conspired to drive the cost of ICE-travel...
