Interesting idea: Trailer battery can DCFC the truck.
So, to do this, you need the truck to accept the Trailer DC source - get past the 'handshake' step and at these high current flow rates, the trailer battery will need cooling system...
I wonder what it takes to get the truck to accept the DC...
In Texas, and other warm places if you don't put the battery inside a conditioned garage or dedicated battery room, then yes you need to consider temperatures for the battery pack.
In my area I mostly worry about the other extream - cold but for the same reasons - keeping the battery happy.
A...
For my Ram 2500 I spent $150-160 per week, 52 weeks a year.
For the Lightning I spend $10-12 per week...and no oil, exhaust, diff, transfer case fluids.
During good sunny weather the charging is "free" from solar. During winter about $2/day on overnight charging.
In January 2025 the ICE F-150...
talking about the fold down work surface - why is this so thick, but doesn't have additional storage built into it?
Shouldn't these folding sections open for storing papers, tablet, 'stuff' in side them?
I chatted with a guy recently - I was DCFC on the hwy and he was charging his 2024 Sierra EV.
He showed me his truck and it was pretty nice - gotta admit it. The 200kWh battery is something, and very heavy truck. He said 740km range (460 miles) on a full charge.
I looked one up locally and they...
We still have a few vehicles between my wife and I, so one is still ICE, one is Electic and one is PHEV. We pick and choose what we need for what application. I always take the Lighting as first choice when I can - ie not long distance towing- It is the most fun to drive of all them.
Hi Joe, I would say - check if there are charging stations along your route with pull-through style chargers.
That would mean if you do need to charge on route, you will not be stuck with un-hooking and re-hooking up the trailer if you need to charge while towing.
I almost hate to say it, but...
If you put the battery "on a shelf for five years" it will be scrap by then - batteries slowly discharge over time, and if the voltage drops too low, there is no recovery.
Batteries degrade with AGE as well as charge cycles - even if you 'exercise' the pack on a shelf, it will still degrade with...
Sorry, I meant to say 600 mile range at the same price point as the current generation of batteries.
I follow solar and stationary battery tech closely - my other addiction er, hobby. The battery tech is moving much faster than you realize. There will be lower cost batteries in a few years...
I think "early on" when they marked it up $10k+ Above MSRP the Dealers LOVED the Lightning...later when the public got kinda PO'd over the mark-ups and the towing and heating range impacts hit the social media, then interest dropped off. Early adopters in 2022 didn't have access to Tesla...
Glad to see Ford Motor Co do what they can to market the Lightning to more users/demographics - get bums in seats where you can.
The next step will come when we see batteries with 600mile/1000km range and charging in 15-minutes, but to achieve this is not just a battery thing, it is an...
Since the 2024 XLT has the two extra wires, but not the 'dummy plugs' it would be nice to get the correct OEM wire harness that Does have the two plugs for the bed Lights.
Since there are sooooo many wire harness options, I read 15 pages of this thread and another 15 pages on the Gen14 forum...
