  1. Share Your Pipeline to F-150 Lightning. G'on. It's Thanksgiving...

We live on the side of a mountain so our first EVs are glorified golf carts with dump beds on the back (Yamaha U-Max). They are so much nicer and quieter than the gas versions and a lot quieter than our tractor - which is next on the list. We started with an e-Golf once they had decent range...
  2. Charging Overnight: Rivian Dealership Learns the Hard Way

Gasoline fires are easier to put out because there really isn’t anything left of the car after the gas tank explodes. I passed a VW bus that was on fire and though we were several lanes over it was surprisingly hot and the flames were much bigger than you would expect. We probably should...
  3. Interesting Article On Current Guardrails Vs EVs

This FUD has been around for awhile. My Audi Q5 was 4200 pounds. The heaviest Lightning is 5500 pounds, which is equivalent to the heaviest ICE F-150. The F-250 is significantly heavier than the heaviest Lightning at 8600 pounds (diesel). My e-Golf is 3500 pounds and my EV6 is 4700...
  4. Farley says Ford is behind in EV (vs. Tesla and China) so Ford can't afford to "walk away from EVs."

You don’t know what you are talking about. Signed… Washingtonian who drives from Canada to Calfornia on the backroads in a *Standard Range* Lightning.
  5. First Time EV Owner - New Emporia Classic at 48A. Is this too hot?

This is a consequence of higher amperage continuous charging. This is the electrical equivalent of leaving an electric oven on ā€œbroilā€ for hours with the oven door open. Wires are going to get hot. You definitely want to unwrap the cable if you are going to charge at that amperage...
  6. Run 3 phase tool (120/220v) from Lightning PPO

None of this looks like a good idea to me. 1HP grinders are fairly inexpensive and a lot cheaper than replacing the inverter on your truck. If you want to experiment - which I do not recommend - then use something else for your power supply.
  7. Ford CEO expects EV sales to be cut in half after US tax credits end today

In case anyone is curious about how far you can push it in real life at freeway speeds, on one trip I had to make a large detour through the boonies because I-5 was closed due to an accident. I had charged to 83% in Woodburn and arrived 159 miles later at Lacey with 12% (27 miles of range...
  8. Ford CEO expects EV sales to be cut in half after US tax credits end today

As promised the details from my death-defying trip to Bellingham (and back!). Iā€˜m (sniff) not in the cool kids ER club, I have a Standard Range Lariat, which has one of the smallest ranges available in a new EV. The trip was from sea level to sea level with some rather big hills in between...
  9. Ford CEO expects EV sales to be cut in half after US tax credits end today

I wonder if you were looking at the wrong number. Ford recommends that you charge to 80% unless you are about to go on a long trip. You might have been looking at the 80 next to the gauge, which represents the battery percent and not the range. The range is in the middle of the circle...
  10. Ford CEO expects EV sales to be cut in half after US tax credits end today

What did your ā€œtestingā€ consist of? With a full charge my SR will go 160 miles to about 20% at freeway speeds. It shows around 200 miles of range at a full charge. The ER goes quite a bit further. I don’t think that a fully charged Lightning will ever show a range of 80 miles, even with...
  11. Ford CEO expects EV sales to be cut in half after US tax credits end today

How are you getting two hours of charging on a four hour trip? Do you actually own an EV or are you guessing? You are talking about 240 miles or so in reality with traffic, and I can do that in my EV6 with no stops. In real life it takes about 31 minutes to charge my SR from 27% to 80% -...
  12. BlueOval SK workers looking to unionize

The feature that would get me to pay extra is 350kW charging. Now that everybody has Tesla access (I know, they don’t have 350kW yet) that is what makes the difference. With the potential for fast charging and Tesla access my EV6 doesn’t feel any different to road trip than an ICE vehicle...
  13. Ford BlueOval SK battery plant (Kentucky) production begins. Will provide batteries for Lightning

It is almost the other way around. With current prices the manufacturing cost difference between the two batteries is probably insignificant, they just want a differentiator so that the price insensitive (fat cat) consumers have a reason to pay more for the top trim. This is how the game...
  14. My home electric bill has basically doubled in the past 4 months! WTF is going on?

Just to put the numbers in perspective - The average two car household drives 60 miles per day (about 22,000 miles per year). Even a very inefficient truck like my Lightning achieves a yearly average of over 2 mi/kWh. So assuming 22,000 miles per year and 2 mi/kWh, you are using 11,000 kWh to...
  15. May need to get rid of my F150L

I’m sorry. The only advice I have is that it is a lot cheaper to turn the truck into the bank than have it repossessed, and that any truck payments you make now are house/grocery payments in the future. Get it taken care of while you still have income, you will be treated a lot better.
  16. First time using ABRP, some issues

I don’t know of anything particularly wrong with an OBDII dongle although you need one that uses a secure connection. It is quite easy to plug it into the port by your left knee. However where I live ABRP is almost past its usefulness. The ability to use Tesla chargers changes everything, I...
  17. Is Anybody Happy With Their Lightning?

I have had pickups for most of my driving life and there really isn’t anything that my Lightning can’t do compared to my ICE trucks - other than the lack of an 8’ bed (come on, Ford!). I got an SR because for my use it means hauling stuff *in the bed* with very occasional trailering to do the...
  18. Introducing the New Ford World Headquarters

Well that is one way to get the engineers to clean their offices.
  19. Lightning powering house -

I have the 9854 and it does deal with the bonding issues if everything is installed properly. It can take a bit of work, my gas furnace was tripping the GFCI because the neutral wire was shorted to the frame (poor installation technique) which is something that I am glad that I got fixed...
