Years ago I though I was a genius when I hooked up an inverter to the battery on my ATV to power Halloween lights on a hayride trailer âŚ
Gas engine powers AC alternator that powers DC battery that powers AC inverter that powers lights.
One day solar / powerwall /EV charging / home backup / grid support will be simple, easy and common.
Itâs a fascinating concept and I like these imaginative Implementations
Remember, you donât even have to go inside the truck to power on the ProPower outlets.
Just unlock the truck with the remote or touch door handle, and power on with the panel in the bed. That will also power on the cab outlets too.
Many folks donât realize they Donât have to get in the...
Hereâs a guy who getting 40VDC out of the alternator-generator connected to his EV. Heâs using itâs XT60 output, which is rated higher than the Ecoflow connector output.
Mustang Mach E âŚ.The GT models are reported to have a 220A DC/DC converter, which would limit you to around 1750W converter output. Remember that converters are not 100% efficient so the input wattage will be higher than the output wattage and must be accounted for so you don't overload the 12V...
So quick summary. For those who want maximum DC output from the LightningâŚ.
For full access to the nominal voltage of the HV battery, the home integration system will allow that, but inverts it to 240V AC, and is very expensive elaborate equipment for a reason.
Connecting a so called...
Not ignoring but would like to follow up.
Well, a âsingle kWâ is 1000 Watts. At 12V something would be drawing an 83 amp load. Thatâs pretty big. Not exactly an analogy or example of a feeble electrical load.
Actually, nobody seemed to get my point about âwhat DC voltage would you...
â?oh, my.
has nothing to do with hv dc battery.
Ev owners are hooking up the alternator generator to the Hv- AC inverter output. Gives the device the amps it needs to convert ac to 800w dc.
So Iâve offered 2 solutions for high wattage DC direct Output.
The above âalternator-generatorâ but...
True. But not possible. And thatâs why we donât have, and shouldn't want, access to ânominal pack voltageâ. That kind of âpowerâ will fry ya!
My solution above, is the best option for Dc direct, without additional equipment.
And pretty good.
I have a feeling weâre gonna end up with the answer 12/24 volts DC.
Which is partially whatâs been provided by Ford. Anything above that I find shocking. Pun intended, lol.
The best way to access 12VDC direct, is to connect directly to the 12V battery lugs, or jump lugs, and leave the truck...
So the desire is access to nominal pack voltage, so that can be stepped down to a lower voltage. Ok. Back to my original questionâŚ.what DC voltage is wanted ?
So you want access to 450V DC. Ok. Gonna get interesting.
What would ya do with it ?
Considering every EV maker has gone to extreme measure to protect us âexperienced Ev ownersâ from nominal pack voltage,
my gut tells me that might not be wise.

For DC direct, Guys have had good results with alternator chargers. They leverage the high amp load capability of an automobile alternator (AC) to quick charge a âsolar generatorâ battery pack DC direct.
(Thereby making them gas...
Everyone that says it sure would be nice to have access to DC direct âpowerâ from the truck,
exactly what voltage would you like that to be at? Lol
