mother than the sway bar size, I think everything is accurate. Parking brakes, brake sizes, radiators, that’s all legit.
There is nothing to “credit” for 17T. It doesn’t increase capacity. Beyond the radiator, the parking brake is also different. “Trailer tow” is referred to as “heavy duty” in the esourcebook and the owners manual.
The thread was started with a document. That consolidated much of the known info.
For starters, you don’t have the larger radiator, which is needed to pass the SAE tests with a 3.5 Ecoboost. It is rated for 7,000lbs. The chat people literally know nothing and are not engineers.
we haven’t any word from Ford on this, but it does specifically state in the documentation and in the actual build sheets that 17T + 53B does not get a rating over 7,000lbs. I wish we knew exactly why. On some trucks, the radiators are different (according to the documents). We cannot assume 17T...
Medium is no towing package but with the class IV hitch.
heavy duty is trailer tow package
max duty is max trailer tow.
no, we probably don’t know all of the differences but we do have documentation that there are some differences and they are different build codes and the legal tow ratings...
Here’s something else I have noticed. Even the 14,000lb hitch is only rated to 5,000lbs unless you use a load distributing hitch setup. Not just on the bumper, the receiver too.
Again, you’re probably fine to put 7,00bs on a standard ball, but the reality is that you could be held liable for...
It’s not much, but 1485 here. I intentionally didn’t get the power tailgate package for this reason, it’s heavy. I also like the static running boards better, and this years power ones are incredibly loud so that was an easy decision to leave them off.
I have a sunroof and max tow.
Ha. Well we can certainly say the value is diminished for poweeboost for sure. Max tow gets brakes and a reinforced bumper at least... trailer tow purchasers don’t even know what they get for their money... funny but not funny.
Two things here, first there are differences such as ecoboost getting a bigger radiator in trailer tow, and (maybe) a different sway bar. So there are somethings called out.
second, that config guide documentation was early and had a lot of errors, powerboost doesn’t even appear on the payload...
Yes. That is weird. Is there anyone at Ford we can ask what the actual difference in “trailer tow package” is from a truck without it? We can’t find anything, except potentially that sway bar. I’m happy to run it down. I just don’t know where to go and I’m out of resources.
Thanks, There is very likely more than one sway bar based on others measurements. I don't think the parts site is updated yet unfortunately. The saga continues.
Can you share the parts.ford.com details on this? I actually only see one part number available. FYI this site isn’t complete yet for the 2021 according to my dealer, and what I have seen. Please provide the parts and descriptions.
