I can relate because I am a value buyer, but with transportation it didn't take long to realize that it is smarter, cheaper, and logical to focus on the 95% use case and then figure out other strategies for the 5%. Rental car for long trips, rent local instead of tow (RV, quads, boats, etc.)...

Good point. I am using just a generic generator input into a 50Amp breaker. I did think the Generac transfer boxes did work directly plugged to the truck.

This is not electrical advice but what I did was remove the ground from the cable and it won't produce the ground fault anymore. I snipped off the end, cut and capped the ground, and reinstalled a new cord end. It will now only work with bonded generators and/or my Lightning.

That sounds like a weak 12V battery? Do you leave it plugged in when parked? Or leave it for a long time between driving? Or only drive very short distances?
