  1. A good time to buy used????

With just over 21k miles, it looks like a decent deal compared to my quick search. FYI, those aftermarket rims and tires will reduce the range by 5-10%. Those tires aren't too heavy at 47 lbs, but still a bit more than stock general grabbers at around 35 lbs.
  2. A good time to buy used????

Here, compare to these platinum trim Lightnings to what you're looking at: https://www.autotrader.com/cars-for-sale/vehicle/776098542 https://www.autotrader.com/cars-for-sale/vehicle/776738750 https://www.autotrader.com/cars-for-sale/vehicle/777118611...
  3. Tire Size and Range

Yes, I put on the same size as stock. 275/60R20.
  4. Tire Size and Range

I can't comment on wheels because I kept my OEM wheels, but I replaced the grabbers with these Toyo Open Country AT3 EV tires and haven't noticed a measurable difference in range compared to the stock tires. Tirerack link. It's nice that they also look way better than the grabber tires.
  5. Squirrel Chewed Through Charging Wires

They chewed through my charging wires right behind the charge port. You have to remove the plastic housing around the charge port to see the wire harness behind it. Here's two pictures of the two different times squirrels chewed through mine.

  7. Pics of Lightning Trucks Doing Truck Things. Post Yours! 📸

I bought them here for $15 4 years ago and it looks like they're still on there for the same price. That's a fraction of what you'll spend on the two pieces of plywood you need. The plans come with 33 pages of detailed measurements and one big pdf with instructions. I didn't regret it...
  8. 2023 Ford F-150 Lightning only Charging to 78%

I don't know what Ford's algorithm looks like for balancing cells when charging the battery. However, I do have an electric motorcycle where I've gleaned a little more insight into their BMS behavior. When charging that battery, once it reaches the max voltage on some cells that indicate 100%...
  9. Top 3 lists: what went wrong and right

Wrong: 1. Marketing. They nailed it getting the truck in front of EV enthusiasts, on blogs, influencers,, and in trade shows. That's a very small percentage of their customer base though. Not all EV owners or potential owners are enthusiasts. When EVs became a politically polarizing topic...
  10. EREV - A Horsepower Math Problem?

I think I saw too many generalizations of "The generator will not be mechanically (keyword here) connected to the drivetrain" and conflated it to mean it will only send energy to the battery and not the motors. In a quick search, I was unable to find direct evidence to support what was in my...
  11. EREV - A Horsepower Math Problem?

If you had a 70kwh battery going 70mph at 1 mile per kwh (due to load), you would discharge the battery in 1 hour. That would be a 1C discharge rate. Even if you had a generator that could run at 70kw and output it continuously for an hour to charge the battery the whole time, that battery...
  12. Oops, something went wrong with the connection - Android Auto

The recording of your voice isn't analyzed on your phone or the truck, It's done in the cloud by Google servers that have a greater capacity to determine what you're saying and what to do or respond to your command with. When you have no signal or a weak or slow data connection (cellular or...
  13. What's your favorite stretch of road?

Try highway 36 between red bluff and the coast in NorCal if you want to experience a less traveled 2-wheel road. https://www.pashnit.com/ca-hwy-36
  14. What's your favorite stretch of road?

Imagine how much less power I could have used if I hadn't averaged over 72 mph. I would try to max it out if I didn't enjoy the performance aspect of the truck so much more than the fuel efficiency.
  15. What's your favorite stretch of road?

I got particularly excited when I noticed the performance I was experiencing for an hour along this stretch of road on my recent road trip. This was heading down I-80 between Truckee and Sacramento. I'll let you do the math.
  16. 2023 Lightning Lariat dead, backordered parts...

This was the perfect read for me as I'm about to leave this afternoon for a week-long 2k mile road trip from Central Texas to New Mexico, Colorado, Utah, Nevada, and Northern California. Good luck with all your trouble. I hope it's not contagious.
  17. Ding ding for nothing?

After OTA updates, the truck occasionally seems to forget what setting the headlight knob is on. I keep it on auto. It'll still be in that physical position, but I don't think the truck agrees with the knob on the current setting. Cycling it back and forth appears to sync the two back up...
  18. Post a pic of your Dog in your new Lightning 😁

I'm going to be travelling 2000 miles with my dog soon, so I made this for her in the back seat.
  19. Squirrel Chewed Through Charging Wires

I never updated here, but I was trying to humanely deter the squirrels (despite my bluster). But in the last week of February, I returned from a 4-day trip where my truck had been parked at the airport. The morning after my return, the squirrels struck again and destroyed the same wiring...
  20. PSA: Get an Additional BlueCruise Year for Free (2022 and 2023 Models)

No, it was just my opinion that the button/field I needed to press wasn't obvious. In the end, I got there and thought that my struggles might aid another person when a lot of people in this thread are saying that the option wasn't available to them.
