Fair call out on what's defined as easy! EZ-OFF refers to is the quick-release, tool-free removal system. The canister can be detached using the built in release handles instead of unbolting rails or dissembling hardware. It's more about simplifying the removal process versus implying the cover is weightless.

The weight of the canister is evenly distributed, and one side won't be heavier than the other, and it weighs about 97 lbs. Having a second set of hands makes the lift off much easier.

I have the Composite Retrax T rail cover. Are the rails the same with this quick removal box? I like the new locking mechanism. It looks like a natural progression for a retractable cover. Judging from the price I paid 4 years ago, this retractable cover would be over $2000.

The rails are similar, with a design change to accommodate the new canister.

The original box came with 2 drainage hoses. Every time I shove boxes or camping gear under the box the drainage hoses fall off, although the water drains from the canister consistently.

But, for $2,400 I'll stick with my hard tri-fold. My hard tri-fold provides the exact same function and lift-off capability for $700.

I suppose everything depends on how you look at it.

This one is "only" $250 more than the standard XR and I would probably have paid the extra ammount for it had it been availible when I bought mine.

Overall I am very impressed with my XR and yes, they're expensive, but they do work very well.

Glad you are enjoying your XR! They are top of the line covers for sure and the new EZ Off model was highly requested from many customers who wanted that full bed access quickly but still wanted a retractable cover.

I still enjoy my Retrax T rail retractable cover, despite the 10% loss of the truck bed. Still find the space under the canister usable. The T rails for me was the selling point. Able to attach bars to carry kayaks, rooftop tents and cover camping equipment under the cover.
Another key point for me was the streamlining of my Lightning. It does improve efficiency and lowers the KW consumption while driving at interstate speeds.
