If you don’t want to watch then just skip. I was busy last night so I didn’t watch it either. But I thought it might be helpful for those who plan to tow heavy items.

A good example of what not to do with your Lightning. They did most everything wrong like something many truck owners will do.
The dealer doing this demo/test was Paducah Ford.

This is a SR Lariat that does not have Tow Technology or Max Tow. It does not have a Trailer Brake Controller (missing Tow Technology) and it would have a 5,000 pound trailer tow rating (missing Max Tow). He also doesn't have a weight distributing hitch.

It wasn't a detailed test like you would get from Out of Spec. It was a very hot day. He didn't mention anything about battery temperature or the cooling fans.

Keep watching… they switch to an ‘estimated’ 17k trailer later. The whole thing is sad, the person in the video obviously didn’t read the manual or do research. No trailer brake controller, he tries to configure the trailer on the screen behind the wheel. You never see them go into the trailer config on the main screen or show the tongue weight on the truck. Also, doesn’t seem to understand how the estimated mileage works. It was all frustrating to watch.

It handled the weight surprisingly well consider it was not a max tow or er lightning. Let him so the stupid testing. I figured the Lightning would out perform in towing performance just absolutely suffer in range making it nearly impossible for many people.

I think I can make it work for the occasional tow or buy an old 250 if I need too.

It is coming in right where I'd expect it to. I have my 22', 14k GVW trailer with which I plan to haul stuff locally. Happy to dump my 6.0L F-250 in exchange for it.

The Cat 299d has an operational weight of 10897.5#, my similar 14K tilt deck trailer weighs 2600#, so he’s under 14K with this setup. It’s a dumb stunt, but I’m not surprised that the Lighting can pull it.

I think he made sure not to video towing the skid steer just for liability purposes. Not sure what he was thinking when towing the 10000 pound trailer. It was beyond the rated capacity too.
Although there will be plenty of truck owners who will do the exact same towing and not think about it. E.g. “It’s got a receiver hitch and I’ve got a trailer ball, I can tow it”

all of the Lightnings are built exactly the same, towing 10,000lbs with any trim level is not the issue, the BATTERY, whether SR or ER, will not like it after a while, which is why the max towing package simply adds additional chillers/cooling - the truck itself is EXACTLY the same between all models. There is nothing that is going to 'fall apart' or 'fail' simply because of the towing weight.

my comment from the get-go was that the first thing in the video is someone stating that they are towing a 10,000lb trailer/skid steer, NOT a 17,000lb item. I chose not to watch the whole video, because, after all, it served little purpose.
