New here. Sorry if this isn't in the right forum. What is going on? I can't find any info on ordering a 2024 model. They are only 2023 models. The dealerships have no answers. Is Ford just going to skip 2024 all together and just build a 2025 with native NACS, heat pump, etc? I'm sorry, but after spending 2 days in cold temps, the 2023 range wasn't working for me. I returned the truck. Keeping my F250 until a real 300 mile range is available.

They have changed the models around a little with the introduction of the flash model. Otherwise, the batteries are the same, there is no magic solution to winter range. 2025 won't change that either, only the new t3(no date at all on that) will get the big upgrades.
Your dealer will know when the order banks open for 2024 models.

I am/ was sort of the same boat as you. Kept my 350 and bought a lightning last year. 20k later on my lightning I barely use my f350. Which is fine because since it’s a 6.7 King ranch I’m not losing money on it.

depending on where you live , the 300 range can be pretty close or several % off. But once you get comfortable with the learning curve In Some situations- it really is an amazing truck. I walk out every morning and almost always just take the lightning. Even if I’m going on a 4 hour trip I know where good chargers are and will take it and charge for 30 minutes if I need to be safe. My excitement outweighed the charging anxiety and now for the most part my anxiety is gone while my excitement has turned into satisfaction.

not trying to sell you on anything , but I think I could sell my f350 tomorrow and never look back. I am keeping it for maybe another year just to make sure the battery modules are holding up. When you have a good second car - those issues - especially under warranty aren’t a big deal - when it’s your main car and the dealership has it for a month - can definitely be annoying.

all these EV trucks need larger batteries.
If range is the main concern then yes.
For a lot of people the current range isn't a problem and adding more modules produces diminishing returns. What all ev's need is new battery technology that has more capacity, less physical size and weight and better resiliency to cold or hot temperatures. An interim solution is a better charging infrastructure.

My thought is that they are working to offload the abundant 2023 inventory still on lots before opening any orders for 2024.

I mean, 300 mile range is available, just not on the highway. The way EPA rates range is silly. It's some nebulous "mixed" course. There should be a grid with range on one axis and speed on the other and an asterisk that say "when water freezes these numbers get worse." Instead, Ford advertises "range: 320 miles" and a lot of people find out reality only after purchase. It's not a great recipe for customer satisfaction.

For what it's worth, I've needed the full range of my truck precisely once in the 15,000 miles I've driven it and only DC charged before my home charger was installed. Apparently, I'm the target customer for Lightning. That's not to suggest everyone is like me or should use their truck like only that it's an amazing vehicle for certain use cases.

Owning an EV (here in middle America) requires a considerable amount of patience compared to ICE power. You’ll have to come to an internal understanding of that before you can be satisfied with one.

It helps if your use case allows for nightly home recharging without the need for public charging infrastructure.

The GMC Hummer has a huge 205 KWh battery that accounts for 1/3 of the empty weight of the truck and it’s only rated for 400 miles of ideal driving. We’re going to see battery improvements but don’t expect any miracles.

If you can't home charge my advice is don't buy a Lightning. I love mine but I've noted that for trips the cost of electricity from a DCFC is higher than what I would have paid in gas for my ICE truck. (Chevy Avalanche 20mph)

Well….orders must have been open for 2024 models at some point. I have one on order that says “in production”. And my dealer has @10 available 2024 models showing on their website as “in production”. My order was placed in October.

I placed an order in December and received a VIN yesterday for March build.
