Well.. with Ford's 23 MY price increase.... there is no $40k Lightning anymore. I don't expect Chevy to keep their $40k price point and Tesla will definitely not deliver a $40k CT because they don't have to. People are paying $70k+ for R1Ts and LIghtnings (even Pro and XLT models) so Elon isn't going to leave $30k out there. I originally thought the new starting price would be $60k but seeing as how much he has upped prices on the Y, we are probably looking at a $79k just to stay under the IRA price limit.
Agreed. There's no reason for anyone to sell a meaningful amount of trucks at $39k anymore, now that Ford has blown that number out of the water. So, the chances that anyone does it are near-zero. Maybe, MAYBE, a handful like Ford just to say they did it, but I doubt it.

The absolute cheapest GAS Supercrew F-150 is now $40,640. And that's 2WD, 290hp N/A V6, and totally stripped down.

The time of $40k EV full-size trucks is over... after all the people who were allowed to buy 2023 Pros at the original price get theirs.

Just came back from the LA Auto Show and spoke to the GM reps on hand.

I couldn't make the VIP unveiling event for reservation holders and media the day prior to the show, but at least they gave me 2 free comp tix for entrance ($44).

Base EV WT will at start at $40K MSRP before D&D fee.

WT base fleet will start delivery mid 2023.

WT & RST consumer retail will start in fall 2023.

Reservation to order conversion will start in spring 2023.

I'm the first reservation at my dealer. Got thru that reservation seconds after it was posted.

This would be the only thing I'd consider trading my incoming the Lightning Pro for. We'll see what the specs look like.

If they do it, great for the people who can get one.

I just really doubt they'll make a substantial number of them at $40k for retail when Ford is charging $52k for theirs and the absolute cheapest gas 2022 Silverado WT Crew Cab 4x4 looks to be $45k.

It would honestly be stupid for them to charge so little for more than a handful of trucks (like Ford), BUT if some reservation holders can get them at that price, great!

We'll see what happens, but I wouldn't be holding my breath if I was a reservation holder hoping for a $40k Silverado EV.

Ford said all the same stuff that Chevy is saying: "Yep, it will be available at launch!" "Yep, retail can buy them!" "Look, we're making 20% Pros!"

But we all know what happened after that. Hopefully the people here who have reservations actually get them at $40k!

Yes, exactly !

Since I was not able to get the Lightning Pro or XLT trim that I really wanted for a commuter EV truck, I'd seriously grab the base EV WT for $40K in a heartbeat!

The rep said that battery & range are not finalized but the base EV WT will get at least 200 miles on a standard battery pack.

He was adamant that corporate is holding onto the $40K price tag which I asked how they can do that when Ford upped the price twice on their '23 Pro.

We'll see if I get called - I am number 2 at my dealer - reservation within 3 minutes of opening.

You're asking the right questions! Interesting they said "at least 200 miles", because some people have been adamant that even the base truck would have way more than that.

IMO, that's good news that it's lower because it's more realistic that they might sell it for the lower price.

I hope you get one!

Do you know how GM reservations works? I am one of the first ones in line but would only be interested in a mid-trim if the price/range/features are right. Since I am getting the Pro, a 200 mile WT does not make much sense for my case. Do you expect more announcements with details on other trims before orders are open? Or you would get the call with offers for the two trims already announced and have to postpone if you want something else?

People are going to be surprised (?) at how expensive the GM trucks are. GM is "hoping" for 200 miles in the WT base truck. We already know that the 400 mile RST is $107K+.

At the end of the day, all these trucks will probably land in the same general price ranges. With 200 mile (90kWh) trucks around $65K, 300 mile ($130kWh) trucks around $85K, and 400 mile (170kWh) trucks around 105K. And they are going to remain niche for a while.

The wildcard is Tesla.

I asked the GM reps on hand that day and they did not know how the reservations will be chosen for conversion.

All they said is that the reservation holders will be invited in 2023 spring for fall delivery.

Based on how Ford did it: dealer allocations & ZEV state preference, I would not be surprised that GM may do the same thing...

For my GM dealer, I chose a high volume, truck sales specialist with no ADM.

Sounds like you have a great shot at #2! I hope they keep that price, even if just for a few. Good luck.

Thanks for the info and asking the right questions with the rep. I just wouldn't hold my breath on the pricing or volume of these vehicles from GM. They've already started back pedalling on production numbers of EVs leading into 2025 from what they said months ago. They cant even rollout the Hummer EV and they are gonna mass produce and truck based on the same platform. 🤔

Actually I was quite shocked to hear that the base EV WT ($40K) will be delivered to fleet buyers first in spring 2023.

And retail EV WT will be delivered in fall 2023 which was very shocking because initially GM said they would first roll out the RST and 1st edition trims ahead of any other trim.

Wondering if the recession and interest rates hitting the nation - GM must be rethinking their original strategy by putting the lower priced trims ahead of the high end $100K+ trucks.

My memory was that the fleet delivery of the WT trim was always going to be first in the Spring of 2023. However, I do think this is an acceleration of the retail WT to be in parallel with the RST trim. I believe retail WT was originally 2024.

Yes, you are correct.

Just amazing how the retail deliveries were moved up!

Makes me think about the other GMC Sierra Denali EV truck reservation I also have - they may open up to delivering the lower Elevation or AT4 trims instead of launching their $110K 1st Edition which I am NOT interested...
