Just took delivery earlier this week of my '23 Lightning Lariat...reading here, it doesn't list 2023 Lightnings as eligible...hoping they just haven't updated the list yet?

https://afdc.energy.gov/laws/electric-vehicles-for-tax-credit
2023 Lightnings purchased in 2022 are definitely eligible. 2023s purchased in 2023, the jury is still out on exactly what the rules/credit will be. But if you put your VIN in at the bottom of that link, it tells you the Lightning is built in the US, which means it isn't automatically disqualified from the 2023+ credit.

okay thank you for the quick reply...yes luckily I took delivery on Monday, despite the initial estimate being Spring 2023! Is there an income level phase-out?

Income phase out and other restrictions take effect after 12-31-22 so you are good. You'll take the same $7500 credit as in the past.

Only new thing immediate upon the bill signing was the North America assembly requirement, but that doesn't have any impact on the Lightning(Thank you Michigan!)

After the New Year its still anyone's guess, but you are good

Yes, on the $7500 (I don't know anything about Colorado), as long as you have $7500 of total tax liability for the year. This is not just how much you owe at tax time, it's your total federal tax liability for 2022. So, if you paid in $25k of taxes during the year and your total owed at tax time is $0 (because you paid it all during the year), then you'll get a $7500 check from the IRS. If you have less than $7500 total federal tax liability for the year, though, you wouldn't get the full benefit.

Congrats! And as greene said, no income phase-out for people who take delivery in 2022.

Well, there's an income phase-out if you make too LITTLE, actually, because you won't have enough federal tax liability. But presumably, if you are worried about an income level phase-out, that's probably not an issue.

Is this the correct form? Purchased 2022 in November. For materials do I just need a copy of window sticker when I send materials to my accountant?

https://www.irs.gov/pub/irs-pdf/f8936.pdf
That is the correct form, but not sure what details your accountant will request of you.

They may also ask for the bill of sale / settlement statement, copy of the 2022 registration, the manufacturer's certificate of origin, window sticker.

None of these supporting documents need to be sent to the IRS, but many accountants like to see supporting documentation so they are certain that you're qualified to claim the credit, they may keep copies in their retention files and return your copies to you, you should also file away with your read copy of the tax return until the statute of limitations expire for tax year 2022 on 4/15/2026.

Thanks! Just curious as the form for the 30% rebate for home charger installation. My install was about 3500. Does that apply to residential?

I had the IRS request purchase and registration documents for my 2016 Model X... So there's always that chance they will check up on you.

The 30% tax credit for home charger installation, including wiring, is totally different. It goes on form 8911. It's 30% up to $1,000 total. So, if you do the math - $1,000 / .3 = $3,333.33. So, if you put down $3,500, you will get a $1,000 tax credit.

Having taken this in 2021, all you need is the total cost, which you have.

I'm in CO as well (picking mine up tomorrow), and I believe electric trunks are eligible for $3,500, as they are listed as a different category of vehicle (light duty electric truck vs. light duty passenger vehicle). It lists a GVWR of 8,550 to 10,000 but I've seen the prior year tax form and all it lists is electric truck of any GVWR.
