Buying used, what to look out for?

I have a friend who wants a lightning after checking out mine (25 platinum). He wants to buy a low mile used one. Anything specific to be aware of on older models if he doesn't find a 25 in his price range? He does want the 131 kwh battery, and the 9.6 pro power would be nice but mainly the battery.

22-23 use a resistive heater for cabin temp where 24-25 use a heat pump system for supposedly better efficiency. How much better would depend on your climate. Shifters seem to be a chink in the armor, had to have mine replaced already and only have 3k miles on the odo. Odd reports here and there of moonroof leaks, nothing out of the ordinary for a huge hole in the roof lol. Had my fair share of them and refuse to buy another, T-tops same game.

Then there's the software, wooo where to start. No deal breakers, just annoyances mostly.

I'd look for a 2024 Flash. No sunroof so no leaks, bigly battery, can get the pro power thingy for 240v output (which is great for backing up your house). 2022-2023 had some battery issues. Really the best product out there IMO

If he expects to have the 131kWh battery and the dual on-board charger, the choices will be limited.

In some MYs, Ford changed the ER battery from 131kWh usable to 123kWh usable and eliminated the dual on-board chargers so charging is limited to 48A.

Many things to consider/watch out for in a used Lightning...look for the repair and update history for starters.

So he found a truck (flash). It has everything he wants except the tow technology package. The truck does have max tow, a brake controller and the 360 cameras and even the pro trailer knob thing. What else would he be missing without the tow technology package?

Pretty sure both tow packages have the technology package, mine does but doesn't have max tow, have the 4 and 7 pin and hitch out back but no brake controller, I do have the trailer knob.

I was wondering about that it doesn't state on the window sticker that it has the tech package, but the brake controller and max tow is listed in the options area.

I have a 2023 Pro, things may be different on the truck in question, but my sticker says:

53D Max Trailer Tow Package - Includes: Increased Tow Capability (10,000 lbs)
17V Tow Technology Package - Includes: Forward Sensing System; Pro Trailer Backup Assist; Pro Trailer Hitch Assist; Trailer Brake Controller; Smart Hitch with On-Board Scales (not available - see option 63X); Trailer Reverse Guidance; Mirror, Sideview - Manual-folding, Power Glass with Heat, Turn Sginal and Black Skill Caps and LED Sideview Mirror Spotlights; 360-Degree Camera

They discontinued the on-board scales I believe - at the time I bought (Jan 2024) the parts for it were not available - COVID supply chain disruption I think?

The Max Trailer Tow Package includes extra cooling for the HV Battery and motors.
