doubtful, as most EVs separate 'output' and 'input', requiring you to remove the charge plug before the truck will go into 'gear'.

Trailer the Jeep 1/2 way, then when the battery dies, trailer the lightning

Exactly what size generator were you thinking of putting in the bed of the truck? If you could bypass all of the controls that prevent you from generating and driving simultaneously:

An 8 HP 5500 watt generator? You'll probably be able to travel @ 12 or 13 mph with that rig.*
A 22 HP 10,000 Lincoln welder generator? You'll be able to speed up to 22 maybe even 25 mph.*

*On a flat surface, Not considering any towing load.

Either of those two set-ups will emit more pollution than if you ditched the Lightning and got a PowerBoost instead.🤦‍♂️

A) put your 240v very large and heavy and unwieldy generator, with gas cans, in the bed of the Lightning
B) start your trip
C) when you run out of power 20 miles shorter than when you would have without the generator and all it's weight onboard, crank the generator and plug in the truck
D) bring a microwave so that you can make some popcorn for the show
E) 6 hours later, continue your journey

Can I run a generator in the bed of the truck, tape the charging cord to the side of the truck and charge the battery while driving?
Not on this model but they do have a model with the option to have an onboard generator that allows you to charge the battery when it runs down.

it's not out of the question, although many will 'question' the validity of it - currently EVs don't allow charging while in motion, but you can certainly STOP anytime and charge : )

A H2T owner converted to battery with a tubine generator. Claimed it got 40MPG but would burn any car behind it when they charged up.

I have a dual fuel generator Champion , it's very powerful, but I also can't recommend doing that even with a potent generator. Don't rush, give the car time to charge, I'm not sure, but it seems to me that using the car while charging can damage the accumulator
