This is a topic that we need regulations on the limit per KW for EV charging stations.

Typical fast charging EV rates I've seen between $0.45 and $0.55 per KW.

My old 2020 ICE 5.0 F150 averaged 18mpg.

18miles devided by 2miles per KW = 9KW. At $0.50 x 9KW = $4.50.

loved the truck and 99% of my charging is at home, but without limits. I believe we will get fk'd 5 years down the road....just saying

Market will drive it. No limit on gas costs. Do your research. On most trips, hotel charging is free. Some trips we have done 30% free charging.

We don't need any more regulations!!!!!! Shop around. Saturday I paid $0.61/kw. 12 miles down the road it was $.47/kw. It was worth more because the .61kw DCFC was right next door to my hotel. The other factor is speed. Time is money and while the DCFC down the road might have been faster, I'd have and extra half an hour driving there. Shop Around! all prices are online.

EVā€™s only make sense when you are doing 80% ish of your charging at home. But also, there really isnā€™t much competition when it comes to fast chargers, the last thing I look at is charging cost rate, Iā€™m way more interested in whether there is an available plug or if the Tesla cable is long enough. Last night my bumper had to touch the charger to reach, and the people charging their Teslas were very gracious.

If this country is going to catchup (not lead) the rest of world into electrification of the transportation infrastructure, a less than gasoline cost has got to be a constant.

Us earlier adapters are already here and there has to be a compelling reason for the next wave of adapters to come onboard. Cost savings is going to be that catalyst. Yes, I know the DCFC providers have to make money, but they do not have to make a fortune. At least not right away.

The cost of a KWH varies greatly across the country, but the pricing at the ā€˜pumpsā€™ donā€™t seem to be tied that.

Adopters.

I don't agree.

The majority of people who buy an EV aren't going to take trips in it. Therefore, with home charging, it's irrelevant of the cost.

Now, add in a local trip with a charge. Cost is irrelevant. Most people lack the ability to calculate it.

There is a Shell station nearby, where gas is 20 cents a gallon, or more, more than anywhere else. Constant traffic. People don't care.

There never will be a compelling reason to drive an EV, which is why the government has to step in and force the issue. Given the choice of making air cleaner or saving money (gas), people will save money every time.

Do a survey - do you believe that a fast food worker should make a wage to support a family of four? YES, overwhelmingly. Now, say "you will PAY FOR THAT by higher food costs at the restaurant." Now, overwhelmingly NO.

My utility company sucks. They waste money on advertising, they send all these "informative" mailings about my usage (which says I suck because they don't factor my EV usage in that they know I have), etc. They ask if I'd be willing to pay more for cleaner electricity or gas. No, I'm not willing to do so. Why? Because the CEO's salary is $9 million. Because they waste money on all these irrelevant things. Cut his salary to $1M, eliminate the waste, and then we can talk.

I scratched my frunk pulling up to a steel pole, set in concrete, with an ā€œEV charging onlyā€ sign with self tapping fasteners. This was at a Tesla supercharger and I had to be a little angled and close. The fastener got me

this was completely incorrect comically so so Iā€™ll leave itā€¦ā€¦. šŸ¤Ŗ

I just recently took the most painful road trip of my life financially as far as cost for travel. 1000 miles across North Dakota and Minnesota going the speed limit in frigid temperatures. I spent $400 fast charging to go 1000 miles. Thatā€™s $2.50 a mile!!! gas was 2.74 a gallon. Even driving an old-school Hummer getting 4 miles to the gallon. I wouldā€™ve saved money. I even scored a free charge in one city along the way. I absolutely love this thing, but this trip put me on the fence.

Me and the wife sat down and talked about it. This either needs to rectify itself very quickly, get an another vehicle, or seeing as this is worth more than I paid for it get rid of it. It makes me sick thinking like that, but that was just unacceptable. It wouldnā€™t bother me that the trip took four hours longer due to charging stops if it was cheaper. But I actually looked and a plane ticket for the trip I took wouldā€™ve only cost me $50 more round-trip.

Now you know why Elon is the richest man in the world. I have 32K miles on my ER Latiat. Only once did I try to find one and then charge to batteries. 4th location worked. After 45 minutes on the phone with EVGO. 3 hours later I was on the road again. Love the truck, hate the charging infrastructure.

I plan to keep the Lightning for around-town stuff. Daily distance limit without stress is about 230 miles. BTW, a Porsche 911 only gets about 220-250 miles per tank. I plan to Buy a tow/road-trip machine next year for cross-country travel. I figure a 7 year-old F250 should do it.

I think you missed my point entirely.

I am speaking to maturing the the technologyā€™s ā€˜adoption.ā€™

Do you perhaps mean 40 cents a mile?... $0.40 x 18 miles is $7.20 a so called gallon.

The hummer would have cost $685 for the same distance at $2.74 per gallon and a 1000miles/4mpg.

The truck would have cost around $152 for the 1000miles at 18mpg.

Oh God, I shouldnā€™t be doing math right after waking up and hung over

Youā€™re right. But my old truck at 15 miles of a gallon would have been half the cost not nearly as bad. But seeing as most of my travel is 100 miles within home I can relax now.

I disagree on the "no compelling reason to drive an EV." They are faster, more fun to drive, often loaded with nifty technologies, and should have an overall lower cost of ownership in the end. Personally I have zero reason to buy another gas car ever again with more superior drive trains all over the place and more coming all the time.

Might as well ask why anyone buys a pointlessly fast sports car... usually it's just cause they like it šŸ˜

There's a town operated chargepoint that's 1/2 the cost of charging at home (.15/kWh vs .30/kWh) that makes having the truck a cost savings over gasoline.

Of course if one figures the true cost difference as it relates to CO and a warming climate then you need to know how dirty or clean the electricity is in your area.
