Electrify America changing from Pass+ to Pass not working: Fix #12

May 2026 I turned on Pass+ feature in Electrify America in anticipation of needing to do frequent mid trip charging while pulling my trailer to & from the drag strip, hoping to take advantage of the 25% discounts.

Unfortunately my plans to race this season have been placed on hold until the fall or possibly next year once my wife's health concerns are stable.

Later in early June I was charged for the monthly $7 fee which reminded me that I needed to downgrade the option back to regular pass membership.

I used the app to attempt to down grade, and thought I was successful, but apparently that isn't the case, the Pass+ status remains active, noted the July 1st $7 charge posting once again.

Again, I tried downgrading but the status remains at Pass+ because we're allowed the remainder of the month to use the discount until expiration on last day midnight.

I'm suspicious of a defect with the EA app or maybe their accounts management system.

I've opened a customer support ticket, they're investigating the matter now.

Question for the audience, have any of you experienced this problem, shifting in and out of the Pass+ option?

I have had issues but it was long enough ago that I don't remember specifics. I know that I completely cancelled my account....twice. As in close my account and wait the 60 days or however long it took to get my leftover money back. I only use EA with P&C or activation through the Ford app now.

I really REALLY despise EA and try to use anything else if possible. Billing, account management, and actual charging all have had issues for me.

I have only charged at E.A. once, but I did upgrade for that month. Same issue, I downgraded and the downgrade did not take. When I saw that credit card hit for the renewal, I ended up calling them - and reached a real person. They were able to see that I had commanded the downgrade when I claimed to, and that a renewal payment was processed after that (in error). She was able to force the downgrade for me, but said that there was no way to refund the month paid in error.

Thanks for the feedback gentlemen, at least I know I'm not solo on this experience, maybe they will fix what ever the underlying cause is, in the meantime unsuspecting and fiscally ignorant folks are being taken for a ride.

That sucks. You could call your credit card company and tell them that you did not authorize the charge, which is true. They’ll give you your money back and EA will get the message real fast.

Discovered Rivian charging stations while traveling in the northeast recently. Stations are nicely set up and their video screen and instructions are super easy to use. Far preferred the Rivian stations over the ElectrifyAmerica.

Will do that in the next 14 days if EA hasn't fixed the issue and credited my card.

I've used the Rivian station in Aberdeen. Far and away the best charging experience of any place, except for the pricing.

Discovered Rivian charging stations while traveling in the northeast recently. Stations are nicely set up and their video screen and instructions are super easy to use. Far preferred the Rivian stations over the ElectrifyAmerica.

No offerings along my intended route, if they put a station along the i-495 (Mass) loop that would be nice.

That was true but Rivian seems to have lowered their prices lately. One site I go to has both Rivian and Tesla chargers in the same parking lot and the Tesla non-member price was always much lower than the Rivian but now the Rivian is between the Tesla member and non-member price. If you’ve avoided a Rivian site in the past it’s worth checking again.

Consider yourself lucky. E.A. rep told me that they had no ability to refund the two months that they billed me after they admitted that I had cancelled on May 23rd.

This is a shining example of why I use Privacy Dot Com virtual cards for everything. I can set dollar limits, and pause a card if I don't want any transactions to succeed. It is especially useful for this scenario. Pause the card. They won't be able to charge it. Shift the burden of figuring it out back on them. They know that for $7, you are likely to put off the need to call them for awhile, allowing them to continue to collect it. Because it's not worth spending a bunch of your time chasing it.

Being able to just shut off the card (without affecting any other recurring transactions) is like a superpower.
