If you can believe those darn environmentalists, California Utilities are making extra revenue on EVs that charge during Off-Peak hours, lowering rates for others.

There is something to be said for the EV charging making use of the grid during otherwise low periods of demand. This means that the same amount of grid bandwidth can ultimately produce more revenue, thus making reinvestment into the grid more viable.

Leveling out grid consumption stabilizes the grid, making it more predictable, and profitable.
