Well hope springs eternal. Ill keep waiting. now if @Ford Motor Company could figure out how to keep the A/C on when you start it from the app and open the frunk with it 100 degrees outside that would be nice

The truck ON with all accessories off uses about 400W. Has anyone using the ProPower with truck OFF timeout circumvention* collected data on the idle truck power used? You should use the ODB2 reader with CarScanner and collect HVB data over at least 24h to estimate idle truck power.

It's a huge inverter (7.2 kW). I imagine there's probably still hundreds of watts of idle power with no load. But, it would be helpful to see data.

*100W load on timer: 1s ON, 299s OFF - 0.33 W avg

As soon as you plug in an OBD reader, it causes a bunch of processors to become active, so you have to measure it with something else.
Or at least that is what I've read here in the past.

Plug the ODB2 reader in at the start to get your starting battery energy remaining. Unplug the ODB2 reader. Plug it back in after 24h and get the ending battery energy remaining.

I tried to use this feature on July 4 when a storm caused a power outage for 200k households. We were supposed to be without power for four days so I hooked up two refrigerators and headed to the hotel.

Pro Power with vehicle off turned off because of what I assume was the refrigerators did not draw the minimum current when idle. Went to the home and turned the truck on and ran without incident for three days.

This is a great example why Ford arbitrarily setting a minimum draw is an anti-feature, not a feature.

@Ford Motor Company , please lash the engineers with an al dente noodle each time they even think of leaving this anti-feature in the firmware.

It sounds like perhaps it’s safety related since you’re leaving the high voltage contacts open (I assume) the whole time you have pro power “on”. So maybe they thought, let’s reduce risk and close those contacts if we don’t see any meaningful juice flowing. Just a theory.

Just a terminology item here for your education. Your open vs closed terminology is backwards. An electrical switch or breaker or relay or contactor that is open is OFF whereas closed is ON. Opposite of the way you think of a door. So having the HV system turned on means that the contactor is closed.

Not to deter this thread but can we program the Interior tailgate/frunk release buttons to be on ignition instead of constant?. If release buttons must be hot all the time, perhaps only with fob or PAAK in close proximity of truck?

Regarding PPOB, the recommended timer and 200W heater, should be 1s on, 220s off per @K6CCC , seems to be working well while table top testing:

12-volt systems will be powered by the traction battery DC-DC converter when the truck is off with PPOB on. Also, the Sync screen and the instrument cluster will be dark, the AC and seat heat/cooling and exterior lighting is off. The running lights were on but shut off after a minute or so. The dysfunctional auto off on minimum load did not appear with this update on my truck either.

The unlock feature from the Ford app can also be used with the bed green on/off switch to start PPOB. I did not check with PAAK.

I found that I can now charge tool batteries in the frunk with the lid closed. Previously, the 400 watt limit with the lid closed would trip the overload with any battery/charger I have.

Questions:
-Will the Ford app still show the PPOB usage? Most likely, if the 12V is being powered, so telecommunications would still work?
-Can you clarify for me what "dysfunctional auto off on minimum load did not appear" means? Are you saying that a minimum load is no longer needed to keep the PPOB on?
-How does the Unlock from the Ford app work to start PPOB? Would not the PPOB already be running if setting is set to allow PPOB while the truck is off?
-Is the Frunk power limit when closed removed when using PPOB with the truck off? I thought the frunk power limit when closed was about 150W, even more likely to cause a problem than a 400W limit for stopping the tool battery charger, I would think. Do tool batteries take that much current at, say, 40Vdc?

Following up to GoodSam's post #164, my '23 Lariat does indicate PPOB load wattage with the bed outlets powered via the Ford APP with the truck off (IPC, SYNC screens and lighting off).

Knowing how problems can appear with any software update, I wanted to be certain the minimum load requirement of the "Leave PPOB on With the Truck Off" selection which the MY '24 and '25 Lightning has, did not propagate to my truck with this update. Fortunately, it did not. It's worth checking in the later model year trucks.

The "Leave PPOB On with the Truck Off" selection resets with each vehicle start, so it is not likely to be enabled when power is needed. It's easier to plug in to the bed outlet, push "Unlock" from the FOB or Ford APP and then push the green On/Off button next to the outlet and not get in the cabin to start the truck, enable PPOB, and shut off unneeded power loads.

My Mikita 18-volt battery chargers draw 200 Watts with a single battery or 400 watts with the dual battery charger. Neither were usable with the frunk closed previously but can be used now.

I was also quite excited to see this feature, as we use our 2023 Lightning for camping, and like to keep a small fridge in the bed. So, I found the slider, enabled it, powered down my truck, and fridge power *did not* stay on. I tried again, engaged the slider, powered down, and just before the screen blanked, I saw a message saying something like, “Truck must be on to enable this feature”, which of course, makes no sense at all. When the truck is on, and the fridge plugged in, the reported draw is 100 W, which is close to that shutoff threshold that people warn about. So, what’s going on here? When I get home (currently on a camping trip), I’ll try a larger load, and see if I get the desired behavior when the truck is powered off. Anyway, love the Lightning, great product (although a Maverick-sized EV truck would’ve been better for me — the F-150 is just too big around town), but it’s a real shame how Ford has handled their first EV products. As for me, I’m going back to BMW for my next vehicle purchase — I have an ix3 on order. However, we’ll never sell the Lightning until the wheels fall off.
