[Feature Rollout] Pro Power Onboard with Vehicle Off

Let me explain why this approach is flawed: Tailgating with an instant pot. The pot draws plenty of power while heating up, then intermittently to keep pressure. Sometimes that's an hour-long cooking cycle before it switches to keep warm. If the truck decides there's insufficient load after the initial bringing up to temperature, the food will not cook properly. Yes, with the knowledge of this requirement, an old fashioned, inefficient 100 watt light bulb will become part of the kit for tailgating to ensure the cooking appliances with their intermittent loading, do not face a power outage.

Also can be a user option.. so if someone care they leave it on.. if they dont flip the toggle.. it is software afterall.

Add the short interval timer linked a few posts above. Problem solved - at least until Ford does a more proper fix.

You have been asking for this one for a long time, and I know it has been a point of frustration to have the entire truck powered on just to use the outlets. For those that don’t have this switch yet, I am really happy to share that we are officially enabling the Pro Power Onboard with Vehicle Off toggle in your SYNC system.

This is rolling out specifically for 2022 and 2023 model year owners.

Earlier this year we pushed out Powertrain updates 25.13.12 (2022) and 25.8.5 (2023). A lot of you eagle-eyed forum members noticed that one. That update was the final prerequisite laying the groundwork for this feature. If your truck has already received that Powertrain update, we will be pushing the new toggle directly to your SYNC system via a silent update. You can visit this page to check your recent software update history.

Here is what you need to know about the rollout process.​

When does it start? Deployments begin June 25th

Will I receive a notification? No. This is a completely silent update. There will not be any in-vehicle notifications, release notes, or vehicle downtime. It happens entirely in the background.

How do I know if I have it? Once the silent update completes, it can take one or two power cycles of your truck (turning it on and off) before the toggle actually appears in your SYNC menu. Keep an eye out for it after the 22nd.

How do I use the feature? To enable, navigate to the Pro Power Onboard screen. Turn on the respective outlets you wish to use. Toggle Keep On When Vehicle is Off. Turn off the vehicle.

I know we took a while to get here. Thanks for keeping the feedback loud and clear so I could keep taking it to the software team. Let me know how it works for you once it shows up.

Also note that it appears to actually be a lower limit than 100 watts. Because of an odd situation, I am almost always leaving PPO turned on with about a 50 watt load (measured). PPO stays on just fine. And as Heliion pointed out, it is rather energy inefficient leaving it on. Hopefully the reason for leaving it on will go away in a few days.

Thanks for getting this pushed thru. NOT being able to do this was a pain when I did my 5,000 cross country trip, camping in the truck bed tent. Often in RV sites in campgrounds grabbing an overnight charge, I would have to start the truck to use the bed power at night. Usually flashing my headlights at neighboring tents in the campground. Keep the updates coming.

Still pretty much useless then, unfortunately.

Most use cases are intermittent loads or low power. Fridges, power tools, small appliances, A/C, heating w/thermostat, charging your devices - all intermittent or low power. I wish the engineers would consider the real world when designing features.

Hmmmm… learning about this update now, but I was camping recently and pressed the power button for the outlets in the bed while the truck was off, and nothing happened… but then I pressed the unlock button from my fob and pressed the power button again and presto! Power! Pretty sure I didn’t already have this update.

ill just say its cool ford is still updating the cars despite no longer making them. these are "free" features that we didnt expect when buying and help with vehicule value and customer retention.

Is it true that if the truck is running, the 100W minimum is not in play?

My engineering brain says there must be a technical reason for a min power draw and timer. Currently camping on Vancouver island and the BougeRV fridge does not draw enough to keep the outlets on while the truck, 23 lariat, is off. Still the best truck for my use case ever made.
