Texas truck channel did this first ever Dyno test for the ER battery, can anyone elaborate more on the results? ? Is EV Dyno same as ICE Dyno (Brake Horsepower vs HP)?

Just some quick recap from their results:

Manufacturing rating for ER 580 HP and 775 LB-FT of torque @ Motors
Their results 565HP and 784LB-FT of torque @ Wheels (what does that mean?)

It means Ford is sandbagging the numbers, but this is always Dyno dependent and anyone can manipulate those numbers. Also Iā€™m not sure how much of a loss an EV would have vs ICE on a DYNO. The ICE has many contributing factors that would make those numbers come out lower on the Dyno

If the numbers are accurate, that means the truck is seeing about 2.5% loss through the reduction gears and Ford sandbagged the torque (it is a little over 800ftlbs)

The possibility of those straps breaking scare me lol.

Thereā€™s also this matter of the ā€œnewā€ type of linked AWD dyno being described ā€¦.

Would they have sandbagged the HP too? Their 580HP would be at the "crank" normally right? Or is 580HP rating from ford at the wheel?

I was assuming crank, but I am not sure for EVs.

"drivetrain" losses have to be pretty small in an EV. I'm not sure it's even worth differentiating between wheel and crank HP with an EV since the wheel is essentially connected directly to the "crank". The correction factors associated with the dyno internals are likely a bigger source of error here.

Thanks! I found that worth watching.

My favorite part was that they needed add some resistance or the truck "thought it was flying" and would back off the throttle!

Too bad, but understandable, that they cannot go full throttle right away as that is where the best torque numbers should be for an electric motor.

The whole thing is absolutely scary... it definitely looks like it it wants to take off.

Yeah - dyno tests are always fun. The silence from the truck in this one makes it a bit different.

True... just as scary with the rumble of an ICE engine. With the EV, the sound of not only the engine, but the Dyno itself reminds me of the sound of a jet engine.
