Keeping in mind you need permission to install it on your meter, from your utility company. Or, you need to put up a 2nd meter box to hold it, which gets more expensive.

If your meter is in a good accessible place, and you plan to use ProPower or a generator, this thing is THE WAY to power up the whole house. I put in a whole proper generator inlet and breaker interlock because these were not approved here yet. They are now finally and would have saved a lot of work.

Even if your meter is not in a good accessible location, you can buy or make a long ass 10/3 portable generator cable and semi-permanently put the cable in place where you want it.

Where do you live? My utility told me I could have it on my meter. We just went through an 8 hour power outage. I am buying this

I'm in Athens.

But after some apparent miscommunications with the support staff at the vendor it became apparent that they thought I lived in Athens, GA...where it is permitted to use the behind-the-meter solution. So when they figured out that I lived in Athens, AL and it's not permitted here (yet) I got a refund. No harm done.....it's a great solution and if your utility will permit the behind the meter version I'd go for it. The alternative is a side-by-side connection box version.....which if I'm going to have to do that, I could probably do cheaper with a Generac transfer switch, like others have done (mentioned in several posts around the forum). The behind the meter version was just a simpler and cleaner method...but the utility here said no.
