The Ford Mobile Power Cord does not need or use the neutral in the 240V mode with the 240V dongle. I tested the wiring on mine and drew the picture below:

When I first got my 2023 Pro and had not installed the Ford Charge Station Pro, I used the FMPC with a good quality plug adapter for a short period of time - I had a 6-50R outlet as well I had used with my 2012 Nissan Leaf charger (GE Watt Station) since 2011.

However, be aware after prolonged use of the FMPC, there have been reports of failures.
Some may have been due to a bad connection with the dongle (not seated well or corrosion build up on the contacts) but others were internal and caused melt downs.

So my opinion is you should consider getting something more reliable.

Good luck.
So just to clarify:
No concerns charging my Lightning off of the decades old outlet that requires an adapter to mate to the Lightning, but I should beware of the brand new charger that came with and was designed specifically for the vehicle (even when using a "correct" NEMA 14-50)!!?

THAT is HILARIOUS, wait... PATHETIC... maybe both?

Seriously though, I appreciate the heads-up on that. (Seems like a recall would be in order.)
Yes it is sad that the FMPC has failed many Lightning owners, but not made by Ford just rebranded. As far as I know, Ford had nothing to do with its design. Similar one was shipped with Mach-e I believe - also some failures reported with that one.

Covered by the 3 year B-to-B warranty, if that's any consolation.

It was made by Webasto and sold on Amazon as the Webasto Go - also some bad reviews of failures there...

You may need this table with error codes (in 3 sections):

What is pathetic is Ford charges $500 for it! Save it for emergencies on the road - carry some handy adapters for various 240V outlets - camp ground generally only provide 120V but sometimes have a receptacle that has a configuration that might be confused with a 240V outlet, it has 120V on each side but both from one side of a split phase and won't give 240V.

This shows why this FMPC failed - a poor connection of the 240V dongle.

This one melted and failed and the poster cut it open to see if there was anything he could replace:

Yes a good quality 6-50P to 14-50R adapter (or adapter cable usually no more than 1.5ft long) will work fine. I have heard of some cheap adapters melting - didn't save the picture.

Good luck!

PS: if your outlet is very old, check the insides (with the power off) and look for any signs of corrosion or heat stress.

Also they say breakers have a 30 to 40 year life span.
That always worries me when I think about when my house was built.
