Undercoat only the steel components and avoid any electrical components/wiring/rubber/plastic/aluminium.

When I first purchased my truck I had asked if it was a good idea, the dealer said no, don't do it.

Personally, I've only done a couple of vehicles and I found that the cost now is too high for the perceived benefits.

Some people swear by it and that's fine, go for it.

Mechanics in your area will thank you if you DON'T uc it. That crap is nasty when trying to work around it.

Your truck, your call. Considering there's a huge warm water reservoir covering the bottom of the truck called the battery cooling system. I have to wonder if it's actually worth it.

Maybe if you live in the rust belt it would be advantageous on un-coated steel for rust protection.

We have our delivery trucks hot oil undercoated every year, this round I had them do inside and outside of the frame on the lightning. They also drilled and sprayed the rockers but whatever it won’t hurt, at least they stayed away from the power tailgate and frunk.
I haven’t seen any of the newer gen aluminum f150s in body shops I deal with have real corrosion issues on the body unless due to dissimilar metals touching, or an area that gets blasted with rocks etc.
But I figured it was a good safeguard for the frame and it doesn’t really get messy like the other undercoating products get from one application. I may have them only do the frame every other year depending how it looks.

Based on a very informative F150 Gen 14 thread long term test of undercoat products, I used about 4 cans of Amsoil Heavy Duty Metal Protectant to hand-spray every surface, crevice and hole for the bottom 10 inches of my Lightning.

It too a while on a sunny day 13 months ago. I had the truck up on ramps, 1st on end and then the other end. We have only a driveway (1930s house in an old inner suburb).

The overspray made me wear a woodworking respirator and goggles.

70% or so of the Amsoil went into the ends of the undercarriage because of the battery protection plates.

We can't prove a negative, but I'm glad I paid the $$, and glad I did the work myself. The Amsoil HD MP coat has dried to a very nice half-solid film and now a year later I see nothing I do not like, despite running the truck through a lot of different environments including layers of baked-on salt at the Bonneville Salt Flats.

As an added benefit he more than 90 minutes of this work, on a nice warm Fall day, made me learn the truck's underside thoroughly. And of course, this type of work when done myself vs. being delegated to the unknown 19-year old in the franchise's back shop does provide some certainty.

I got suckered into the protective coating from the dealership when I purchased. My first F150 so at the time I figured what the hell, sure. Lots of road salt where I live. I later looked it and it appears all they did was take one of these spray cans and spray a few areas. Not comprehensive at all. So maybe I’ll go back and try this DIY approach later.

I'd be more interested in additional sound proofing from road noise if there was something that could be done there.

I'm based in Toronto and have rust proofed my Platinum with Krown - 2nd time since purchasing the truck new in 2024. I only ask to have the undercarriage and wheel wells sprayed (as opposed to their full service that sprays into quarter panels, doors, and drills access holes in strategic locations).

No issues to report but I have noticed a fastener on the top of the front suspension control arm develop some surface rust. It's a little bit annoying but I'm continuing to monitor.

And every spring I go back to Krown for their salt eliminator service - which involves cleaning the undercarriage.

I was interested in ceramic coating and my dealer offered me a package that included undercoating. It as cheaper than stand alone ceramic. They did the steel parts only that included the frame, tops of the springs. They did a fantastic job with no overspray any where. Looks like the taped around the spring towers and the battery. My 2000 F150 had some serious rust issues, so I'm happy its done.
