I have a well insulated detached garage with no heat. Yesterday I raised the inside temp from 36F to 44F in under an hour by running the heat on high with windows open. Outside temp was about 20F.

I didnt track how much battery it used but it didn't seem like much.

Don't try this with your ICE truck!

An hour of full heat probably uses 5-7% of the SR battery.

Wow that's a lot!

Is it true that running the heat in our trucks uses up battery quicker than running air conditioning? If that's true, that would be kinda the opposite of ICE trucks.

Yes, quite a bit more. It is a huge power draw.

Buy a 240v space heater and plug it into the bed outlet. :)

Yup. Heating the garage with the truck's windows open is probably the most inefficient way to warm the garage.

Remember that in this case, he ran the heat full blast continuously. In normal use, the duty cycle will likely be some fraction of that, depending on outside temperature and personal comfort preference.

The biggest difference between heat and AC is the temperature delta. If it’s 90F outside and want the cabin 70F, you are maintaining a 20F difference. If it’s 20F, you have a delta of 50.

In an ICE, heat is free. You’re dumping waste heat into the cabin instead of to the atmosphere.

Meh….either way, 100% of the energy taken from the battery is converted to heat which ends up in the garage.

Interesting experiment, but i can't help but think that there might get be a device better suited for heating your garage...
Perhaps an portable AC with heating function (they usually use a heat pump).
