Is the antenna required for the AT&T data services?

I removed my antenna and replaced it with a stub. I am trying to activate my free AT&T data service and I am wondering if I need the antenna on the fender for that to work. Anyone?

No, that's AM/FM. The cell antennas are inside the two plastic caps on top of the roof on either side. Driver side is primary cellular. Passenger side is secondary cellular, GPS, and SiriusXM.
