People should not buy toys they can't afford to operate, no matter what the cost of fuel.

Let's assume a $1 increase per gallon of gas. Let's assume it lasts for 6 months, and a person drives 15,000 miles a year, and gets 17mpg. 15,000 / 365 / 17 = $2.42 a day, $435 in 6 months. If you buy a $40,000 truck and can't absorb that without a severe impact to your life, you shouldn't be driving a truck.

The problem is that people react emotionally, not logically. Gas prices spike, and they trade their truck for a efficient car (when cars were sold), even though they are now underwater from the truck, and it will take many, many years to breakeven on the reduced fuel cost.

This shouldn't be *that* big of a deal to be honest. If you're living paycheck to paycheck then you shouldn't be driving a F150. You should have an old S10 or Tacoma. When I was poor, I drove old ass vehicles (Ranger, S10, Bronco II) and didn't really notice when prices went from under $1 to $3. I mean, yes, I noticed, but I didn't have any payments or extra toys, so I just didn't drive as much and it wasn't that big of a deal.

Never understood the outrage at egg prices either.
This was actually quite interesting and basically a News headline exaggeration. How many people are really living off a boiled egg a day? News acted like we were living in the early 1900s.
Also, eggs from the farmers market didn't really change that much.

Figured I’d post this article here about ICE F150 gas prices to make ourselves feel good.

Guess you don't use eggs in cooking meals? Meatloaf, quiche, Jiffy muffins, egg and sausage casserole, French toast and apple casserole, ... All use eggs. We cost went up due to chicken population impacted by disease.

Well, my wife does ;) I do the cooking outside, but all of your examples, really not a huge percentage of the cost of the finished product. As mentioned above, farm eggs really didn't increase *that* much to where we stopped cooking those items.

Seems cheap, only $215 a tank in SoCal at $5.99 a gallon.
Had to fill up an RV (50 gallons) the other day. Every time I fill it up some jackoff comes over and makes some comment on how much it costs. I just tell them it's a toy, I don't care how much it costs, I can afford it.

This x's 1000.

I really want to purchase an Audi RS6 or Nissan GTR, basically any of those nice rare cars. But the brake job on any of those starts at $5k just for the rears, $10K for a full brake job. I can't afford it so I'm not buying. Not to mention the required gas and small tank.

When I am at my home in NW Arkansas (as I am now), my charging electricity costs 5.6¢ per kWh (special EV rate). A drive into town (about 30 miles round trip) costs roughly 75¢ for "fuel." Even at the relatively low cost of gas in Arkansas, an ICE F-150 would burn at least $5 of unleaded. Over time, that adds up. I love my Lightning.
