I'm coming from 2015 where my key fob would lock my truck from long distance. Walk up to truck and touch door and it unlocks. The Lightning key seems like it needs to be damn near touching the door to read it. The headlights turn on when I approach, but the door unlock is not so friendly. Also when walking away from truck have to be within line of site or no more than 30ft to get it to lock from fob.

Is this because they want me using the phone app, my fob battery is low, or my expectations are to high?

Door should unlock and open as long as the fob is within 3 feet.

For the second part, are you talking about walk away lock, or pressing the lock button on the fob?

I sounds like a bad fob or weak battery. Do both fobs act the same?

Key fob can be in my gym backpack...unless I take they key out the door does not recognize it. My guess is like yours is weak battery. I will swap fobs tonight and see if that changes it

Strangely. My truck is less that a month old but I had the same issue. It was in fact a weak battery. Now it works like a champ! Who knows how long the fobs have been setting in a warehouse somewhereā€¦.

Can I pile on and also mention the lack of remote start
I asked my dealer same question and he said...use your Ford Pass app.

Ready for the full "Phone as a Key" update to be pushed out.

I had a 2015 Lariat. You had to wrap your hand into a front door handle to get it to unlock. It never unlocked automatically, only by unlock button or hand around handle. New Explorer platinum is the same.
How did you set it up to unlock just by you standing nearby?

This is my experience with the Lightning as well. Gotta put your hand in the handle. I thought that was normal. I actually prefer this vs. having the truck unlock if I get near it. When I take the trash out I walk right by the truck and if it unlocked every time I did that I'd go insane (since it doesn't auto lock).

And lack of all-window roll down.
Really? I assumed this was standard as my 2013 & 15 volt has it, and I use it often. Bummer.

It will come, MachE First Edition, aka, Very early free to Ford Test employee here. Now we get all this. Breathe with me, deep in, hold, now breathe out.
Lightning will get it.

Remote start works great with ford pass on my pro. Havenā€™t had any issues with the fob either. Obviously, the pro doesnā€™t have keyless entry or anything fancy, but works great for what it is.

sorry, Iā€™m not following - are you saying that with Mach E they later retrofitted your fob to include remote start?

the F150L has remote start only through the FordPass app, which I find to be ā€¦ insulting

yeah, I know this is the Ford party line.

problem is, theyā€™ve confused themselves with being a technology company that can produce an agile and user-friendly app environment.

and even if the app was worth a damn, Iā€™d still want to be able to just reach in my pocket and double-click the button blindly while pretending to listen to someone talking
