That would require $texas to do correctly and not be a simple diy job due to the high voltage. Not to mention it'd likely limit an already limited audience.
240V AC VS 400V DC lol, do difference for the Truck. This is was a for EverDrive

Point still stands. Plugging into a 14-50 outlet or even hardwiring the evse to a terminal block like is on the Westinghouse wgen20000tfc and t-ing into the on-board charger is quite a bit different than trying to integrate another hvb. Pretty sure Zach and Martin looked into it and mentioned that it would be cost prohibitive and not a simple DIY. To add another hvb would require cooling and likely need to be on a trailer due to weight. Think i remember James from the video I posted saying he had like $20k-30k+ in that camper with the battery pack. I mean we'd all like to have something like this and cwd but not sure anyone would want to foot that bill.

You taking about level 2, I'm talking about Level 3 400V DC, no onboard charger needed.

The on-board charger is mentioned was related to the current everdrive set up. James tied his battery directly to the hvb connection and the trailer in the last video is a mobile dcfc that one could probably plug into a relocated ccs port but would require reverse engineering things. Not sure how different it would be from the logic that controls the simple level 2 charging lock out. Even something like 30-50kW would be useful but likely not very economical.

What about 60kW is there on the trailer already, and I need to put it into P for charging now.

@ZSC100 Any comment on if additional changes would be needed to enable dcfc while driving if someone wanted to basically relocate or add a full charge port to the rear. From playing around on car scanner I think I remember seeing a different value when dcfc v regular level 2.

Evotrex-PG5 is trailer the has his own E-motor and already extent the drive but the 60kW DC will be a game changer.

Sounds interesting if you're interested in a camper and have money to burn.

https://www.theverge.com/transportation/856487/this-rv-will-charge-your-electric-truck-after-towing

The secret to the Evotrex-PG5 is its “unified energy system” that combines a massive 43kWh lithium-phosphate battery, 1.5kW of solar, and an ultra-efficient gas-powered onboard generator called Horizon, which acts as a range extender of sorts. Evotrex says that these energy sources working together can deliver more than 270kWh of usable energy on a single cycle, giving off-grid seekers more freedom to extend their journeys beyond the normal limits. The company is billing it as the world’s first power-generating RV.

Power is topped up automatically through solar, regenerative charging while towing, and Horizon’s fuel efficient generator. The PG5 also supports vehicle-to-load (V2L) power export, making it easy to run tools, cooking gear, or campsite equipment straight from the trailer’s onboard power system.
And when you’re done towing, you can simply plug your electric truck into the PG5 for added range. The RV’s battery allows for AC charging of 6.6kW, or DC charging speeds of 60kW, both off the Tesla-NACS charging standard. And in addition to serving as a home away from home, the PG5 can also power your actual home in the event of a blackout.

Naturally, none of this comes cheap, with the PG5 starting at $119,900. That places it among some of the most expensive motorhomes and camper vans on the market, but certainly makes a case for itself with all its extra power offerings. The fully loaded Atlas trim will cost even more, starting at $159,990. But it’s also not as heavy as I would have expected, with a gross vehicle weight of 9,500 lbs (8,350 lbns dry). Evotrex expects to start production in late 2026, with the first customer deliveries planned for early 2027.

Not to be a contrarian but… steam engines are truly multifuel. Then an ICE hybrid without gas or diesel leads one to.. er white lightning alcohol. But something says a still in the bed is going to be untimely.

Wait a minute this is actually possible?

W-why didn't Ford just do this? Dealers would have loved it. Enthusiasts would have loved it. Wouldn't even have to roll a new EREV off the assembly line either. Like, I get that they probably make more money selling you a new truck, but surely they could have sold this & a Ford engine as a generator at a mark up to install for Lightning owners?

Could even do it at the factory too. Just Lightning minus a few battery modules to keep costs down plus this Everdrive (or equivalent) and voilà: "brand new" EREV.

I wonder if just laying say an Ebay-purchased Nissan Leaf or Tesla battery pack in the bed and plugging it in would be an option!
This!! I want a 40-50 kwh battery pack in the bed of my truck that i can plug in to this system. I dont want to buy any gas.

That would be a cool option, but I don't think a battery plugged into the CCS would work. It'd need to be part of the rest of the pack, and temp conditioned to work like the main pack. That or carry the weight of a dedicated battery-stored DCFC system.

Consensus among experts is that Ford was only making BEVs to satisfy regulation that let them sell more ICEs. This would've actually made EV's more desirable and that wasn't their goal. When Trump removed all the regulation they no longer needed to sell BEVs.

The CCS charge port alone (made by TE Connectivity) plus wiring and all associated modules for monitoring or switching all the sensor signals would cost well over $1000. It's doable, just not economical.
