I have a 2023 Lightning (Standard range). Love the vehcile and planning to keep it for a while. I have 34,000 miles and considering the "Premium" extended warranty to 100,0000 miles. The price is $3,300 but covers EVERYTHING (mainly including all computer, electronic parts. etc). Looking for advice or any experience please. Thanks in advance !

I've been buying my Ford ESP's from floodfordesp.com on my last 3 vehicles to include this latest. If I turn it in at lease end I'll just get a refund on it if it hasn't been used.

As an ex Ford auto tech I can count on both hands and feet the times it has saved customers enough on repair to pay for itself many times.

Peace of mind insurance basically.

Just make sure you double check the VIN on your paperwork. I accidentally put the wrong one in mine and noticed it a year later. There was no way to correct it without canceling the plan and getting a new one. I lost $800 of value in that one year, while it was still under factory warranty. I'm still miffed about that and didn't open a new one as it was almost $1000 more than what I paid the prior year. There's ZERO excuse to prorate an EXTENDED service plan while the vehicle is under the original 36k/3yr warranty. At 60k, I'm not sure it's worth it anymore. On top of that, as I understand it there's a few more hoops to jump through to get one at this mileage now.

I usually never buy extended warranties, on aggregate the house always wins. With the Lightning I did because of the risk something like the screen and/or ancillary infotainment hardware gives up the ghost. And also because the EV plans cost less in general and can be bought cheaper still through the $25/$50 over cost dealers. I'm in California where technically we can't buy a warranty from an out of state dealer but my dealer discounted the plan so it was close enough to Grainger etc to pull the trigger anyway. Net result is my 2022 has coverage through 2030 to match the warranty on the EV components.

Barring some financial arguments that the extended warranty 'might' not be worth it, I bought one to cover me through what I expect to be the trucks useful life centered on the traction (HVB) battery warranty from Ford, my logic is that many of the computer modules and devices might fail during that time frame and then various other system components not covered by the HVB 8 year 125K coverage provides added peace of mind.

If you can afford to replace an item out of pocket, insurance is always more expensive. On a three year old vehicle, the insurance company will have enough information to accurately determine their average cost of coverage and add in their profit margins.

I also never buy extended warrantees for household appliances but bought one for my 2023 Lightning Lariat standard range and am so glad I did. It has already saved me a couple of times. There are so many expensive electronics on the truck that one issue could cost several thousand dollars. It is peace of mind, if you can afford it. Just my opinion.

Similar boat as you. I have not bought one yet, but I most.definatly going to buy a Ford ESP. The was a.user on here a few.montha back that had the main coolant pump fail. As it turned out there was allot to get to it to replace it, recharge the system correctly etc. user had Ford ESP that paid for it, otherwise it would have been well north of $13K. Add to it all the quality problems Ford is having, seems a relatively cheap hedge. Lastly, my local service charges $195/hr (stealership as no way the tech gets a fair share which should be about $60/hr at that rate).

As others have stated, I never buy extended warranties, but intuition tells me otherwise this time.

Well this is what I like to hear. I also recently bought the premium care EV esp through Granger Ford. I don’t normally buy these but this being my first EV I can imagine just a single PTC heater or a main dash screen failure essentially paying for itself with the esp. Basically insurance as you said, which most times you might not need, but when you do, you do.
