We don't need any more tax giveaways. $5.00 gas is doing all the work. There are no electric vehicles unsold piling up on dealer lots that need extra incentives to sell.
The problem isn't people need incentive to buy it. It's that BEV is generally more expensive to buy off the lot than their ICE counterparts.

Yes demand is outpacing supply but that is true with ICE too. So saying gas is converting everyone isn't enough. Supply is just now scaling BEV to compete with ICE. Once supply catches up then you might start seeing them on lots. Except now manufacturers don't want them on lots.

The credit is suppose help boost interest and make the switch easier. Add in the fact that people need to install lvl2 charger or upgrade their home electric also. So the upfront cost is more expensive people looking for a cheap economy car have a harder time finding an EV to meet their needs.

Between election and new congress taking over, there is a chance for all kinds of shenanigans. That's how EVSE tax credit got extended at the end of 2020.

Agree.

Plus, EV's sold out for months or even years, no reason to give away money to let people buy it.

When the cost of battery goes down, then people can afford it.

$5 gas, that's cheap 🤣.

I agree, don't need another tax giveaway. Nothing from the government is free.

🤦‍♂️
It makes it more accessible to those who can't afford it, but the current credit system doesn't work well for that. The new one should improve those efforts.
The Bolt is very accesible and is right in line with the average cost of an ICE equivalent.

There are not enough EV's even now. No point to do so any more.
There has never been enough evs. Now not enough cars period. It's about creating ev infrastructure and demand for ev infrastructure.

Ev vehicle production is vastly catching up. The scale will be there sooner than later. So this will be more proactive than reactive.

I was talking about capacity. Even if government wants to give people free EVs and they can pour tax money on them, there is not enough EV's available.

All I know is that tax credit would help curb the cost in a big way for my first EV and my first new car since 2011. We have many tax credits for many things that we pay taxes for, I would like to take advantage of one. If you think we don't need this credit then don't take advantage of it because you don't need it.

The EV credit, or if a 'new' credit or deduction or 'automatic refund' passes, continues to help 'push' to move to EVs, REGARDLESS of whether there are 'enough' EVs being built, or on dealer lots, etc. TESLA has no EVs on dealer lots. RIVIAN has no EVs on dealer lots. Neither does Ford. That's NOT going to change, or change anything.
We've moved to a 'order your EV' environment, but less folks are going to 'order and wait' for an EV if there is not an 'incentive' to do so. The incentive is still important, ESPECIALLY if it becomes a credit AT THE TIME OF PURCHASE.

Saying that we don't need an incentive to help folks move to EVs is like saying that no manufacturers need to provide incentive to buy their ICE vehicles, which they ALL DO. Look at any dealer's website - it's full of 'incentives' to get folks to buy the product - Veteran's discounts, 'New to the Brand' discounts, 'Brand Loyalty' discounts, REBATES, etc.

I don't want to chime in on the credit good vs. credit bad argument (we have debated that enough), but everyone should know that, unless you live in West Virginia or Arizona, calling your Senator's office won't do anything. R's will all vote against. D's will all vote for, except Manchin and Sinema. Call them.
