In the summer of 2025, I placed an order with St. Mary’s Ford in Ontario for a new 2025 Platinum F-150 Lightning. I had secured X-Plan pricing and several additional incentives, making it a compelling deal. However, the build date was repeatedly pushed from August to November, then December, and eventually to an indefinite date in 2026. Without a required deposit or firm commitment, the dealership was transparent about the situation, noting that if the truck was eventually built, they would simply stock it if I chose not to proceed.

After struggling to find the specific trim and options I required within the Greater Toronto Area, I expanded my search nationwide. I discovered a 2024 Platinum model in Edmonton, Alberta. In November 2025, I contacted the dealership to inquire about the unit; it had served as a Ford display vehicle at the Edmonton Oilers' arena before being transferred to their inventory. They admitted that selling a battery-electric vehicle in that market was challenging, and I was happy to assist them with that problem. By making the switch, I saved over $25,000 compared to my original order.

My father and I flew from Toronto to Edmonton to collect the vehicle, and we made the drive back to London, Ontario, together. During our journey, the original dealer contacted me to confirm that Ford had cancelled my pending VIN, as the 2025 production run would not be completed. It was a win-win scenario.

We drove to Jasper and then Canmore before heading home.....was a great trip!

On a charging stop we met Stan, from BC -- sure wish I could connect with him -- he touch me a lot about charging that stop.

Attached are some photos from the trip.

Wow! You got up to 190.6 kW charging speed. The most I have ever gotten was 186. Nice truck and congrats on the super deal you got.

First thing I noticed was that 196 charge rate. Wow! Is there something different with the Platinum on board charger??

190.6. No, many, including myself, have hit the low 190s since the last charging curve update.

I realize I have not fast-charged since last year at some point :) I will pay more attention to the rate next time I do!

I don't think there's anything different -- was probably just perfect conditions all around -- brand new Electrify Canada Charger (350kwh I think) -- no one else there, perfect temp, etc. Funny thing is that my truck still had so many updates to be done before that charge!

2024 Lightning Flash
Man I'm almost jealous. I only had to drive to Brampton from Hamilton to get my 2024 Flash and that drive is not scenic at all. I have also seen over 180 kW on a supercharger which was amazing for an EV rated for 150 kW.

That's great! Congrats fellow Derek! :)

We are also living the dual EV life and I love my 2024 Platinum. Biggest mistake I made was just doing a 2 year lease thinking Ford would still have the Lightning. I may end up buying it because I also got a lot off sticker when I leased it and this has been my cheapest F-150 even before fuel costs are considered and I just love it so much. Hopefully you enjoy yours just as much.

We share a bit more than a name Derek! My wife has a Mach-e too -- 2 EV families are cool!

Nice truck, and great pics. I maintained tooling and machines at REVC so in a way, I "built" all your trucks! You are welcome! :)
