I noticed yesterday that I have a crack on my left rear tail light, not sure how that happened. I called Ford Service to see how much the repair would cost and OMG $3,042.50 parts and labor... Wow, that seems a little crazy

The tail light assembly has the radar for the blind spot monitoring built into it.

Several posts already on this if you need to research further. The main thing I like to remind folks is there there are two different styles of tail lamps and they are not interchangeable. One for Low Series (Pro, XLT, Flash) and one for High Series (Lariat and above). The difference is if you have a light bar (with integrated reverse lights) or not. Covered ad nauseam in the other threads.

It's an easy DIY repair - I bought a replacement on eBay for $650 (maybe stolen I found out later). You will want to transfer your BLIS sensor over and cover the crack now so that moisture doesn't damage the sensor. Otherwise you will have to pay dealer to program the sensor.

That one is for Lariat and above. He has a Flash. Needs a different part number.

I had to replace a cracked tail light. To make sure the sensor stayed dry I used clear silicone to seal the crack. If it gets wet good chance it will have to be replaced. Just the plastic tail light lens is $2,000.00 and we were able to reuse the sensor and didn't have to do any reprograming after it was installed.

Same thing happened to my right side rear light on my Flash. I am sure I will get dinged on the lease return for this.

I am another victim of this atrocity… Trying to figure out which avenue to go. Looks like just the lens is available for ~$1500 on Ford parts for the lower tier Lightnings. Here is my crack. It also extends around the light housing. It was not my doing, there are no impact marks anywhere and of course Ford wouldn’t cover this under warranty… There is visible moisture inside the tail light but it’s not puddling or anything yet.

I’ld search the hell out of salvage yards around the country and then replace the sensors with the ones in your truck.

EBay is an option, but be aware it could be a stolen part. No way to know for sure.

Yeah, this has been a tough one for me to deal with. It’s the only issue I’ve had with this truck since new. I love this Lightning dearly, which is why I will likely just buy a new lens and make it whole (self-install) before I lose the radar sensor too. Ebay doesn’t have anything right now with the left side low tail light.

There are no blunt force marks or anything to indicate it was my fault. Fords statement was simply, “we don’t cover scratches or cracks”.

It just gives me a serious bad taste in my mouth for Ford and I will not likely return as a buyer in the future over it.

Maybe it’s just the pic, but the black paint below the red lens in first picture seems chipped like it had some type of impact. Took a picture of mine just now for comparison. Maybe it’s just water drops catching the light

Yeah those weren’t the best pics. I took them this morning when it was covered in dew. My dealer cleaned them up a few weeks ago when they sent the pics to Ford. The dealer even indicated they observe no exterior trauma to the lamp.

Wow. I feel lucky. My local dealer quoted me $2,700 for a replacement tail light since mine is leaking water.

They seem to also have to program the damned thing to the vehicle. Getting real tired of this unnecessary programming stuff that your vehicle specific. No need for it.

Not true in all cases. Body shop replaced a cracked tail light lens in my Lightning. Until it was fixed I sealed the crack with clear silicone to keep the sensor dry. So body shop just installed the old sensor in the new tail light and installed tail light in truck and it worked without programing.

Just out of curiosity has anyone maybe tried removing the light, placing over a dehumidifier for a while to remove the condensation and then maybe using one of those freehand 3d printer pens for a more permanent repair or maybe epoxy?
