Sounds Good Stereo Behind the Seat kit installation

I bought this kit way back at Black Friday and finally got around to installing it. Well most of it, anyway. My truck was incorrectly reassembled in lot of ways by a body shop recently, so I'm waiting for them to fix their mess before I do the driver door.

The following posts are a bunch of pictures and instructions should you wish to do something similar. Today I'm just posting the rear door installation. When I do the driver door, I'll get pics of that and post. The electrical/cabling installation I have fewer pictures of, since I didn't think of it as much while doing, but I'll see what I can cobble together in the future.

Before pic of some tools - 1/8" drill, 7 mm socket, trim tools, a little flat-head screwdriver, roller, measuring tape, trim tools, knife, scissors. Block-off plates, foam surrounds for the speakers and the speakers themselves too.

Sound deadening mat and a box of tiles. Have a trash can handy and something to sit on.

Inside of the door (before shot):

Under the handle, pop this guy off with a trim tool, then remove the bolts with a 7 mm socket.

Pop this red plastic bit out with a tiny screwdriver:

Then remove it and the two screws at the bottom of the door card with a 7 mm socket.

Lift the door off (not too far, you've gotta disconnect some stuff):

And remove the lock cable:

The door handle cable:

and the wiring harness.

Behind the door card:

Remove the speaker, peel off the vapour paper, and then test fit the block off plate.

Mark a couple of spots, drill 1/8" holes, and put in two screws to hold it in place:

Then drill the rest of the holes out and remove the block off plate. Stick a couple of the screws back in so you can find the holes later after installing the blackhole mat stuff.

Fill up the door with the sound deadening tiles. Make sure not to get in the way of the window rolling down. Mostly that means stick the tiles only to flat surfaces inside the door - not over any glue joints or support bars, etc.

Push the wiring harness and handle/lock cables into the inside of the door:

Then measure/cut/trim black hole mat to fit everywhere. Cut out holes for the block off plate, the speaker, and any spots you need to get access to clip mounting holes or around where hardware goes when putting the door back together. Please forgive sloppiness and mistakes - I am no pro at this stuff!

Pull the cables back through and mount up the blockoff plate and new speaker.

Grab the speaker surround foam, stick it on, and trim to length.

Finish up by reinstalling screws and panels and done!

Front door time!

Here's where I sit and the trash can I use to throw waste in while I'm doing all the tiles and black hole mat stuff. Definitely good to keep the trash can handy.

And here's the door "before" pic:

Once again, the door handle panel pops off to reveal two 7 mm screws:

And another one hiding behind this red plastic cover:

The front door has one more bolt hiding behind this upper panel:

It pops off straight away from the door (watch out for the wiring harness behind). The bottom clips were a real PITA. Here it is removed:

And you can see another 7 mm screw hiding back there:

Now the door can be popped off (not too far, got wires and cables back there):

Then unplug the lock cable:

The handle cable:

All the many and various ends of the wiring harness:

And then hey presto, door card removed:

Same as the back door now, test fit the blockoff plate, drill all the holes, remove the plate, and put a couple of screws back in as markers.

At this point, you can stick in all the internal sound deadening tiles everywhere you can fit them (no pic this time, sorry).

Then clear off the rest of the door to put on the blackhole mat. This sensor needs to come off (two 7 mm screws):

And also this ECU. Four zip ties and two mounting clips. Make sure to check the routing so you can replace the zip ties when you put it back together.

Then shove all those cables and wires back into the door body:

And install your blackhole mat, then pull all the cables back out, reroute them, mount the speaker, put in the speaker foam, and install the blockoff plate:
