This should dispel thoughts that Magic Dock isn't going to be a long term solution.

Is the communication still going to be through Tesla's network? I wonder if BP will somehow have control over pricing.

That's a bit like saying Hybrids are a long term solution. It's too early to tell but I think it's a hedge that can accommodate either, but in 5-10 years NACS could very well be the winner...or loser.

This seems really strange for Elon. He perhaps gains immediate boost in stock value? Combined with his comment about the disaster of the CT rollout, what is going on?

I think Teslas days as an Automaker might be over in the near future. Their “New” Model 3 is the old Model 3 with a bunch of Mods done by current owners.

Their CT is turning out to be a dud, meaning it is bringing nothing that isn’t already out there.

I’ve always thought that battery tech, software and charging would be their bread and butter.

I guess I mean medium term. Magic Docks are going to be put on the 3,500 Superchargers that are the Feb deal with the feds.

It’s to be seen if superchargers are more reliable because

a) Tesla needs them to be to sell cars and maintains them when they break
b) Tesla designs superior charging hardware

CCS wouldn’t be a big deal from the consumers point of view if fast chargers, namely EA’s, weren’t so unreliable. If BP acts like EA then this helps nobody.

Makes sense for both parties, I wonder what the charging rates will be.

I know that you had no idea that Musk would fire the entire SuperCharger team and then keep and assign a 1/4 of the work to the solar power guys in a single action that has impacted the fundamental faith not just Tesla owners had but those of us wanting a reliable charging infrastructure had hope for when Ford and Tesla agreed to let Ford owners use the SuperChargers.

NACS will still win but it will take much longer.

I just read today how Musk has flipped again and has rehired the executives that tried to tell him he would be severely damaging the network development by laying off SuperCharger staff. All of this while he is trying to convince investors he deserves a $50B payday.

I would be curious to see what the numbers look like if they quit building cars and just licensed the software, battery tech, and charging.
