Update PT-25.13.12 showing Not completed for 2 months now

Hi all,

I’ve had this message for 2 months now and the “not completed” doesn’t go away.
At first, the truck tried several times (maybe 5 to 10) and it said it failed. But then started showing this and it has been like that since then.

I took it to the dealership for regular maintenance and they did some software updates but told me they could not get this one done there. After that, a few days later two updates showed up and went through with no issues but this one came back once those updates completed.

Beginning of this week, I unplugged the 12v battery for 30 minutes and still showing the same.

Has anyone else experienced this? Any solutions?

If you read the thread on this update, you’ll see that many folks had issues with it installing, including me, due to low 12V battery.

This is an inhibit update so it requires the truck off, doors closed and a charged 12V battery. There are suggestions in that thread on how to get it to install if 12V is the issue.

To verify you would need someone like @rugedraw to run your VIN through PTS to see the failure reason.

The dealer should have been about to install it though. Sounds like they didn’t try very hard.

If you DM me your VIN, I can see if the module updated. There is another issue where Sync reports updates not installed when they actually have.

This is most likely because the 12V battery on Your truck has a state of charge too low to have the over-the-air software update download, then validate, and then complete.

Many many threads here on the subject of a 12V battery state of charge which is too low to allow an over-the--air update to complete.

I won't repeat their gist here... BLUF charge up the 12V battery, then verify its full charge, and then verify that it can still hold the full charge. A full 12V battery which can reliably hold a charge as designed can hold likely will prevent other weird electrical problems on Your Lightning. Conversely, an older 12V battery which cannot do so, definitely will cause more and more weird electrical problems.

If Your 12V battery is over three years old, then it likely needs to be replaced. I suggest You avoid the fancy aftermarket lithium batteries if You do replace the 12V battery... again, many threads here on this subject as well.

Yeah, my failures were because of the 12v battery being too low.
Those times where it failed, I got the 12v battery charged to “90%” (according to car scanner) but still got the same error.

Again, there are other ways to overcome that like putting it on a battery charger and letting it try the 1 am update. 90% was never good enough for me either. DM me your VIN and I can see if it is the Sync issue that reports not updated when in fact it did.

My VIN is 1FT6W1EVXNWG03576.
I’ve been very aware of the thread someone posted above and I am also aware of the 12v issues. When I took it to the dealership, I asked them if I needed to replace the battery and they clearly said it was in good shape.

It is in fact the original one.

So PT-25.13.12 is a powertrain update. It updates the PCM, BECM, & ABS modules among others. Those modules in your truck show to have very recent software versions - equal or newer to what PT-25.13.12 would have installed. So it looks like the dealer updated those modules. That OTA is not even needed anymore IMO.

You also have the first 2 SU12 updates (GWM and TCU) but are missing the SYNC one like many others. Those were probably the two recent OTAs you mentioned.

@andres1227 In your case, the battery is not the problem. The OTA has been in your queue for a month now and it seems like your truck has not pinged the server back to accept the OTA trigger. It has not downloaded the files or attempted to install even once. OTA's that require the vehicle to go into inhibit mode like this one have a window of 30 days to install before the OTA trigger times out and expires. Chance are, the OTA will fail in the next day or two seeing it was sent on 7/28. There is nothing you are doing wrong and nothing you can do (AFAIK) to get it to go through. You can try the 20 minutes battery pull, but do not do a master reset. A master reset will 100% cause the OTA to fail right away.

As @rugedraw mentioned, the OTA will eventually expire. Hopefully Ford will see you do not need the update and not resend it. But the Ford mothership often continues to do dumb things.
