Jumping in to clear up some confusion regarding the update mentioned.

If you own a 2022 or 2023 F-150 Lightning, we recently pushed out a software update to enable the Walk Away Lock feature. However, if you do NOT have a BlueCruise-equipped vehicle, you may not be seeing a toggle to control it on your in-vehicle screen.

While I know this is frustrating for those of you experiencing this, I have some good news! There is an update being pushed out which will enable the Walk Away Lock toggle on your in-vehicle screen.

It is important to note that this software update happens in the background, which means you will NOT get a notification on your in-vehicle screen or in the Ford app letting you know an update was installed.

Additionally, you may need to turn your vehicle ON/OFF one or two times for the screen to refresh.

Keep an eye out on your Settings menu – the toggle should appear soon!
Thank you for sharing, this is how you can share and add value to the forum. I know corporate communications are tough and I'm sure they note you can't share some things, but providing a bit of insight or that a change is coming that causes frustration for your owners, goes a long way for PR.

If you can get the ear of the bosses tell them they really need to change the way WAL works. Right now it seems to be based on proximity to the truck. It really needs to be like GM has it set up. Just a simple 10 sec timer. Once the last door is closed 10 sec later it locks. Our trucks sometimes it locks right after you close the door and you’re next to the truck. Other times I can walk a football field away and the truck never locks. It needs to be consistent for it to be reliable. Thanks. I keep recording that and some other things on the record feedback feature but of course I have no idea if anybody is actually listening to those. lol.
I can assure you people get the feedback on the other side (ha). I also share feedback from the forums to teams, too.

This announcement applies to my vehicle, as I have a 2023 Lariat without BlueCruise (SR with Equipment Group 510A).

See video of what happens when I attempt to enable Walk Away Locks.

In reading @Ford Motor Company 's post he seems to refer to those that have WAL working but they don't have the toggles to turn it on and off or at least turn off the horn honk copnfirmation.

Your issue is that you have the toggles, but your BCM has not been updated for the functionality. So the Sync module (APIM) can't turn it on when it tries.

Hopefully @Ford Motor Company is fixing both scenarios. One where BCM needs updating (you) and one where APIM needs updating (to enable toggles).

In May 2025, I sent a PM to @rugedraw , who told me there was a very lengthy list of software updates available for my vehicle and that it would likely take years for me to receive all the updates OTA. So I made the investment in a mongoose, battery charger, and a 2-day FDRS license to bring my vehicle up to date. The only module I wasn't able to update was the BCM because it required some kind of official Ford login to do so. It's been 6 months since and haven't received the BCM update over-the-air. What is a Lightning owner to do to get the BCM update?

Do you have any recalls to complete? It should literally only take them 5min to do.

I received a letter from Ford in October (attached) with the 25S49 recall notice, however it says, "Your vehicle is now operating with the most up-to-date software to address this safety recall, and Ford recorded that the remedy for your vehicle's recall has been completed."

Although, no OTA update is listed in my vehicle's software update dashboard on the Ford website.

I just received a message in the Ford app that my 10,000 mile maintenance interval is coming up in February 2026 and I should schedule an appointment at my local dealer.

I had a glitch in the matrix yesterday after work. My IC went back to the menu view during driving. Checked and found the WAL toggles this morning. Does it work? Nope. I did get that BCM Frunk update back in September.

I'll see if it works later on after another restart of the truck.

We used to be able to help people do this easily, but thanks to Ford's awesome new cybersecurity system, all you can do is pray to the OTA gods and hope they shine their light upon thee.

Or beg the dealer to do it and hope they do.
