I agree. The brake pedal is almost a inch closer as well. Ever notice that in a stick shift car, the pedals are evenly lined up? I don't know why Ford doesn't do that.
1x10 (not 2x10) leaves plenty of room for 2 or 3 suitcases, and is light enough to lift out with one hand. Unlike a shower rod, things can't slide underneath. I may eventually add a rubber mat as well, but I like the ease of sliding things in and out with the plastic bedliner. Paper grocery bags...
I just cut a 1x10 to fit in the slots. Attached a bit of shim at the ends so it doesn't wobble. After I took this pic I drilled a few holes to attach bungees.
Thankfully I don't have to, since it doesn't exist. I commented specifically to the quoted post, regarding it being made mandatory because of some middle management decision. In my case, as with the quoted post, I have basically zero risk of theft. I want to get in my truck and go, not futz...

There are other threads on this topic. It is not easy or cheap, but apparently it can be done.
That said I own a 302A and think the lights are terrific. But if I wanted 502A lights, honestly I would just trade it in for a 502A and get all the other goodies that come with it.
