Update.
I did end up allowing Ford to buy back my Ford Lightning. The story doesn't end there. I purchased a new 2025 F150 Powerboost with the 7.2 KW propower option. Surprise surprise, the same issue exists on the powerboost with the 220 v 30 amp outlet while welding.
I was able to...
I wanted to post an update on the power issues with the Lightning. I met with a Ford engineer from their EV team at a local dealer. They plugged in a in-line amp meeter and computer to my vehicle. I was instructed to weld so we can hopefully diagnose the issue.
The first attempt was made...
It will be fine for light duty use.
I'm about to update a post about an issue I've been having with my 220 v outlet while welding. Granted I'm a pipe welder and weld stick after stick non stop until the weld is done. The ProPower doesn't like that. Even though I'm only drawing 20 amps it...
Ford has had me replicate this issue three times. I have not heard back from them lately, but hopefully they are getting to the bottom of it. The last time I replicated the issue it literally only welded one rod. It seems to happen when I purposefully stick the welding rod to the pipe.
My harbor...
I received a call today from Ford Engineering department. They asked me if I would approve an installation of "Tokens" on my lightning. Apparently "tokens" are used as a diagnostic tool for Ford techs to be able to see deeper inside the workings of my truck. I've never heard of this before...
Slight update.
Monday, I showed up at the Ford dealer ready to weld. Our plan was to catch it red handed. I was devoting the whole day to this if needed. They put me off on the corner of their parking lot with a mechanic to monitor. I proceeded to weld non stop, rod after rod until the...
The dealer called me today. They are saying they are seeing many many alerts that indicate the cooling system isn't working correctly. I hope they are on to something.
Meanwhile I had to purchase a gas generator because I no longer trust this to provide power for my jobsite. I was hopping...
I just ran an Amp draw test. I simulated the same weld scenario. This screenshot is running 75 amps on my welding machine with 1/8" welding rod.
This is an inverter welding machine that typically doesn't draw a lot of amps.
I have a slight update on the Pro Power Onboard issue.
The dealer is saying that they do not have a hard code for this issue. I'm puzzled because I received multiple alerts on my Ford app stating "service required see dealer". My question is what is the point for the Ford app to tell you to...
Hello everyone,
I'm new to this forum. I thought I better get familiar with this forum because of the issue I had last week.
I'm the owner operator of a Mechanical piping company. We do many different kinds of piping but mostly welding. I recently purchased a brand new Miller CST 282 stick...
