Of course I wish Rivian can survive. But I really doubt. Unless Rivian can cut the cost dramatically, they cannot ramp up the volume, volume is the key for long term operation.

Ford is not going to bankrupt but Rivian will. So he should feel embarrassed.

Say it costs 10B to develop it, if Ford sold one Lightning, the cost is 20B, if Ford can sell 200k per year for 5 years, then R&D cost per truck is $10k.

I am early adoptor of EVs so I am not really arguing... EV sale needs 30-50% jump year over year. Without volume it is not sustainable, very simple.

Our tier1 is 45 cents and we always charge at tier2 at 53 cents. And yes Tesla SC (not open for other brand yet) 5 miles away is 35 cents and 16 cents after 8pm.

This is with $7500 credit. Imagine without this next year. People just have no interest, hard to find the right charge with enough speed, battery failure, miserable resale value, and the unpredictable repare cost, no need to mention the high insurance cost and extra $100-200 registratin fee...

Simple math: Gas means > 40 cents per mile. Electricity means 2 cents per mile.

30A breaker for 24A charger adds 5.5 kWh per hour for 10-12 miles and 12 hours to charge 20-80%. If you have a reliable EA around it is fine. Otherwise, consider a 60A breaker 48A charger which reduce charge time to be half.

If this number is for engine/transmission failure with replacement/rebuild, it would be shocking. I hope Ford already has a solution.
