Never tried it in either our Lightning or Mach-e. The one time I thought about trying it (in the Mach-e), we had someone behind us and I didn't want to take the time to futz with it and annoy them.
Not really a fan of the subscription based model, but I understand where Ford is trying to go with it. I suspect that they will make less money on it over time, but I have not run any real numbers on it.
Depending on cost, I might spring for it when I am doing longer road trips, but I do know...
Yup, if you really want to compare apples to apples, take a look at the cost of the mods required to the power boost to make it match the Lightning's acceleration!
Just under 16k in my Lariat ER and still have plenty of tread life left in the factory Generals. Guesstimate I would get about 25k out of them. Mixed driving with a good number of long highway stretches in there.
That said, I will be replacing them come October with something that can actually...
Destination fees don't count towards the tax credit if that is what you are worried about.
Also, do you have it set up as a lease instead of a purchase? That is the only way I can see that acquisition fee being relevant, but then you don't get the tax credit anyways.
A couple other likely impacts of the new SR LFP packs
1) Likely power peak torque / HP since LFP doesn't like to be discharged as aggressively as NMC. could be partially / wholly offset if Ford increases the pack voltage, but that remains to be seen.
2) Lower max payload in SR trucks due to...
Frunkwise, my guess is somewhere in the middle. Smaller than the Lightning, but bigger than the Cybertruck. That way they can get more streamlined and (with good packaging) have a 6' or 6.5' bed instead of just 5.5'
I am not really in the market for an upgrade or replacement until at least gen 2, but a street performance trim would make me think twice about that. Lowered, maybe a little more power (or a boost mode), and some custom paint or graphics...
Not gonna happen though.
Eh - you can test it enough it is just that in most cases no one wants to wait that long or pay that much. Give me a team of 100 for 10 - 15 years to manually check every possible input variable, on every possible hardware configuration, error state, and system state, and then you can be sure...
I typically note any problems I have had before I was able to get a charge going. Something like
Station 2 was unable to initiate a charge. Station 3 is derated and only charging at 30kW. Currently charging at station 4 but it took multiple attempts to initialize.
If it works the first time...
Let's hope (or not) they are very experienced with Plugshare and know to dig back through the actual text of the reviews. I have had plenty of issues at charging stops rated a '10'.
