  1. Blue Cruise Co-Pilot 360 Disappointment / Frustration

Sorry for the attack attitude. I assumed you were referencing Elon Musk's specious claims regarding Tesla's autopilot safety. As a statistician, Ifind his math behind full of holes - virtual PT Barnum stuff. I agree that in theory, self driving vehicles should ultimately be safer than...
  2. Rivian R1T Towing Range Information

Yes, I tow with the MX all the time. I have a row of nine trailers at our farm. Just yesterday I pulled the dual jet ski trailer to the Boynton Beach boat ramp with the Tesla. That's about 4,000 pounds, and uses 650 wh/mi vs the normal 300 wh/mi in local running around here. The biggest load...
  3. Rivian R1T Towing Range Information

Fully acknowledged. But no choice due to HOA rules. I own a Super Duty but cannot bring it to Florida. The fact remains that the rig above meets Ford specs verified at the scales as seen in the picture, by 25 pounds). And it shows what happens when a vehicles is built to meet an efficiency...
  4. I'm so old

They don't cost significantly more. People are willing to pay more. And there's a value differential supporting that.
  5. I'm so old

Ridiculous. Actuality is $3-4k. The difference is mostly manufacturer pricing in tax credits, plus demand driven pricing premiums. Tesla proved this when the credits lapsed on their products - prices were reduced immediately.
  6. Rivian R1T Towing Range Information

proof - last tow was a couple weeks ago down I-95 from Virginia to Florida doing 65 mph. Got 4.9 mph to 5.2 per tank. There is no 36 gallon tank in a PB, only 32. The pic below with our Tesla (my wife and I were driving together between our Virginia and Florida homes) was in Florence SC - the...
  7. Blue Cruise Co-Pilot 360 Disappointment / Frustration

Elon Musk mythology. Tesla & Elon fan here, but that's simply not true. False stats. I use my beta FSD on our MX every day, love it, but it's not ready for prime time. Not even close. Great to experience the AI and modern tech, but man, what a drunk teenager.
  8. Ford Warns Dealers Against Additional Deposit / Payment Requirements For Lightning Orders. Supports No-Resale Provisions in Purchase Contracts

Nope, Tesla now has a nonrefundable order fee - it is no longer a deposit. And Tesla has been jerking people around who had orders, but then Tesla updated the model, cancelled the order and the update cost $10k or more over the prior version. Tesla has been ALL over the place on pricing -...
  9. F-150 Towing Mirrors too big?

multiple posts on a single topic is bad form. Posting about a vehicle that isn't the subject of the forum is bad form. Posting without searching whether the topic has already been discussed is bad form. There are several good threads on this web forum on this question. I am sure that there...
  10. White House releases plan to build nationwide network of 500,000 EV chargers

correct - and building owners will be forced to make EV charging a priority too. Just a decade ago it would have be almost ludicracy to ask an apartment complex if they had a gym or pool. Today it would be insane to build one without a gym, an Amazon box drop-off facility, etc. EV charging is...
  11. White House releases plan to build nationwide network of 500,000 EV chargers

A Agreed, owning an EV without also owning charging equals a decision to have the car own you rather than the other way around. It no longer serves a purpose, it becomes the purpose. Keep it if that's the deal. I counsel my un-homed friends, my own kids, and my students to avoid...
  12. White House releases plan to build nationwide network of 500,000 EV chargers

Not gonna happen. Not a real thing in the real world. The semi trucks are still concepts without ANY infrastructure to get on the road. That's literally none. And unlike lightweight EV's, they depend entirely on charging enroute - which does not exist, full stop. There is a ton of existing...
  13. Ford Dealer calling people that have a Lightning reservation

I have had the same inconsistency with Tesla's direct sales and service model - but no recourse, nowhere else to go - and no one to call - not even the state attorney general because they have escaped the dealership and franchise licensing rules. With dealers, you have options.
  14. Lightning EPA Range Confirmation When?

Some OEMs do the tests in house but some farm it out to independent testing companies that are certified by the EPA. In either case the results are printed on the Monroney sticker and are provided to the EPA, which does selective checking though what they call their "surveillance" program, not...
  15. White House releases plan to build nationwide network of 500,000 EV chargers

Very true. In fact, the higher the price per gallon, the lower the per-site profitability. Perverse, but a fact. It is a cents-per-gallon business, and as prices go up, the credit card fees cut into the margins. The best money at convenience stores is made at self-serve soda and coffee bars.
  16. White House releases plan to build nationwide network of 500,000 EV chargers

We do not have EV semis. And there are major issues with getting them rolled - way behind schedule. The charging infrastructure there is the major issue - as is the battery that Elon promised, still in design phase five years later, with both Panasonic and LG indicating production transition...
  17. White House releases plan to build nationwide network of 500,000 EV chargers

complete BS on every point, standard from you. This is my wheelhouse, what I teach at the graduate level, both the economics and demographics. 30.5% of home occupants are renters, including single family. Many of them now have access to EV charging as an amenity. Most will within ten...
  18. Lightning Allocations Are Out!?

Huh? First "most" dealers did not offer priority for a premium. The three dealers closest to me played no part of that game. They also are not charging ADM. My dealer did not prioritize any customers, did not respond to the offer to do so. They are confident that my #1 position is secure...
  19. Lightning Allocations Are Out!?

Not completely correct. Dealer allocations are for their priority positions based on their prior sales and other relationship kudos they get from Ford. They had a window to use those to prioritize specific customers up a list, but could NOT add customers outside of the Ford preorder...
  20. White House releases plan to build nationwide network of 500,000 EV chargers

Nope, not even close - at LEAST 90% of charging will be at home or work, not at public charging stations. At least 90%, probably 95%+. There simply are not that many folks in living situations without parking. It sucks for those with street parking, and for those, we need solutions, but it is...
