Had a similar encounter back in Feb of 2023 in SoCal. The rarest part was that every Electrify America station was functioning at the same time. ?
I've taken to either waiting the three seconds before touching the handle's capacitive button (still infrequent success), or simply touching the rear handle's button (which seems to work immediately, 100% of the time).
I think it has something to do with the fact that you're using the door you...
The Tesla actually parked like that first. ?♂️ I guess some people are so used to backing it up they can't imagine another way to plug it in. ?
If they weren't already there, I would have chosen a different orientation in a different space.
Either way, definitely a bit of spatial awareness...
FWIW, I was able to charge this morning at a recently installed Tesla Supercharger location at ~170kW without any preconditioning.
I was pretty stoked that this location had towers both in front and in back of various parking spots.
I've successfully navigated a 6' 8" garage before, but it was scary.
I'm normally comfortable with anything 7' or above, but would definitely not go below 6' 8".
This is exactly what I was looking for, thank you! I realize the system wouldn't be able to fully charge the lightning in a day (~8kW system here), but was thinking it could help slow the depletion (or even maintain the charge level) of the battery as it is used for powering a critical loads...
Has anyone considered using the Enphase IQ 80 EV Charger to keep your truck topped up during grid outages? Seems like combined with a critical loads panel and the 240V outlet in the Lightning it would be a cheaper alternative to HIS for sustained backup power, especially if you've already got an...
I've had similar issues, and pushing the button inside the truck next to the steering wheel usually reactivates the outside Frunk button.
The Frunk gremlins are often unpredictable, and one of my favorite is when I go press the outside button to open the Frunk, the go to put something inside...
This is fascinating, thank you for the context! There must be a lot of play in that mechanical stop though, because the truck bounces back and forth very noticably when in park without the parking brake set. I suppose it's more of an annoyance than anything now that I know the pawl is in play...
Can you share how you signed up to become a test site? I also have an enphase system and would see significant benefits from being able to limit peak grid usage with everything in our house except the water heater being electric.
I've seen ~10 in the wild since October of last year, with ~7 of those being on a roadtrip to San Diego from SF Bay Area last month; at one point we were three-thick at the Westfield Valencia Town Center Electrify American station.
