Nope. I want temperature control. Cooler is for my frozen stuff. Plenty of other use cases for keeping frunk warm including keeping ski boots above freezing etc etc.
Plus the idea is to have a thermostat so there is temperature control.
The seed heater looks like it could be a good solution. Will look into that one further thanks.
Coming up to my 3rd winter with the Lightning and I’m looking for a solution that will keep lettuce (and other items) from freezing in the frunk on very cold days.
Anyone tried a low wattage space heater and have any recommendations on model?
I’m locked in at a fixed 6.89 cents (CAD) kWh. When I did the math on my original 2022 purchase, the gas savings alone covered interest I needed to finance the upgrade to the Lightning. Then the ZEV credit in Canada covered the steep depreciation.
That’s pretty good for switching to a first...
So many possibilities. If it was colder at night and was parked outside then you’re starting with a cold battery and vehicle. You turn it on and let it warm up for 6 minutes then you drive for 5 minutes. It’s kWh per 100 km, not kWh. So if you’ve only driven a short distance after a warm up...
EPA highway range for lightning is around 430 km. However due to its aerodynamics the Lightning’s efficiency goes down a lot if you drive at the speeds most people drive at. Lot’s in the forum about this.
I’d say my summer highway range is more like 400 km if I drive 110-120 km/h.
The...
In summer I get 400-430 highway. So yes could easily do the trip back and forth. Like I say normally in winter I do one stop but below -20C the range starts to really hurt. 2022 Lightning doesn’t have a heat pump so that’s holding its winter range back a bit. Although I’ll defer to more...
I may be too late on this response but I mean at below -20 I can’t make it back to the Canmore charging station. Meaning yes I could make it to Louise without stopping, but I wouldn’t make it back. So yes two stops on the Canmore charge station or risk it and hope to get lucky and score one...
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gartner_hype_cycle
So far the Lightning is tracking the hype cycle pretty well. Ford themselves got caught up in the "inflated expectations" phase when they raised prices following unanticipated demand. Now we are in the Trough of Disillusionment and looking...
It all depends on temperature. Don’t have any fast chargers on your route? If so on the way back you can top up a bit. But be prepared to be slowed down by slow charging speeds below 0 C. Coincidentally I regularly do trips from Calgary to Lake Louise in the winter and some times can make it...
In my experience after 1.5 winters with this vehicle: the Lightning is amazing in the snow and ice. Much better than my previous ICE F-150. Of course you need good winters just like any vehicle. And the back will still slide if accelerating too much on a turn - typical of pickups, but not to...
And an update. Talked to the foreman and the real answer is they have no idea what happened. They had me turn on the dealer sharing setting in the app so they can take a look. Seems like something went awry using the bed power but will hopefully know more soon.
Also apparently there are...
So the dealer says it is “fixed” but their explanation for the problem makes no sense to me:
“the problem was the battery depleted from using the generator for too long while the battery was low, he has a full explanation in your paperwork.”
I assume by generator they are referring to me using...
Thanks. I checked the battery terminals and they looks fine, albeit a bit dusty in there. The vehicle has about 15,000 miles on it so not likely a factor defect.
The issue happened after I was using the bed power outlets while it was snowing. It looked like one of my kids had left an...
Thanks all. Boosted and got to the dealer. Got an improper wake up warning on FordPass when I boosted then later a high voltage battery warning came through the messages. I’m hoping that was just due to the LVB drain followed by the system starting up again.
This morning I got a battery drain warning right before my 290 km drive home. Made it home with no issues/further warnings but the screen was blank. It seemed to be in some sort of battery saver mode for the low voltage battery.
Plugged it in inside the garage and a few hours later noticed...
Couldn’t agree more. Handles way better in snow/ice than my old ICE F-150. If they can double the range for cold weather then I’d never even consider switching back to an ICE.
Yeah that’s what I was wondering - if an update had changed the sensitivity behavior. But yes I did check and there was a thin layer of ice so maybe just something I’d never had before last winter, although surprising given winter is like 8 months in Alberta.
