Thanks for the reply. We agree it's a bridge. I think it's great and that it will extend range on the few occasions thats really needed. I don't see alternatives for allowing the Lightning to tow for more than, say, 150 mi.
We're just shooting the breeze here. None of us knows the...
FWIW, I consider the EREV product as fully within the EV frame. Congrats on your sustainability. We haven't been to a gas station in three years except to get diesel for the tractor.
I wonder if next gen battery tech will enable heavier duty trucks than the 150 to adopt elec propulsion. Ford...
I see that vehicle as a SUV with a truck body with little in common with a F-150. Also suspect Rivian may go the way of the delorean. It's not close to having a nationwide dealer network.
But it's a great product for some.
Thanks for the comment. Hopefully Ford will benefit from lessons learned. I like it and am willing to accept modest annual maintenance for the generator even if it not used. To each their own. I understand why some push back.
The eventual solution will come from next gen battery techs that...
FWIW, I see EREV as a huge step forward.
Eventually the much needed step-chage improvement in battery performance will come from new tech that reduces weight and charge times and, most importantly, extracts cost. I suspect Ford and other EV makers (especially those trying to serve high power...
I don't see it that way. In my view the powertrain remains the same. Electricity is now supplied via all charging options available today supplemented by juice provided by an onboard generator (powered by gas). Maintenance cost for the generator will vary on usage, but the overall maintenance...
We got out of our S & into a Mache and couldn't be happier. It's a better form factor for our rural site. We also far prefer BlueCruise CarPlay to the Tesla equivalent. Night & day improvement in self driving and infotainment.
Like you we have a Lighting which is by far the best of the scads...
I learn from others' opinions . I thought the article was flimsy and the headline was misleading, but I also learned about Ford's EREV ambition. Now I have something to research.
I adore my Lightning. It brings a smile to my face on every drive after 3 yrs.
I'm gobsmacked! I would have bet that a 1 pedal drive fault was a software issue whose solution could have involved OTA resets. I'm at a loss to try to figure out how a mechanical issue with the motor would trigger that problem.
That was my experience. I hadn't been to the dealership for 30 years, but my Lightning lust drew me there. I'd only experienced sleaze & upsell b4.
The exact truck i had submitted a build for online (Max Tow, Extended range) was sitting on the showroom floor (even the color was my build)...
I've spent decades dissing dealerships. My local one has totally reformed that view. I'm on a fist name basis with a lot of people there. They have been very fair. The Service Dept is outstanding. Love bein' a Fordie.
I have been unimpressed by the incentives the mothership provides to get techs EV certified. They don't get that much more pay. Also, the dealership tech is legacy at least at my dealer where download speeds (& huge part of most EV service) take forever.
There's also a cultural issue. The...
Many Ford truck buyers (especially for F250 & above) are used to submitting builds and waiting at least a couple of months. Spending $70K+ makes many quite picky about configurations.
The Lightning is awesome in snot -- best of the many 4WDs I've owned over the years. The torque is ungodly, particularly in Sport Mode which I use to max out regen braking. It also tows great -- for short distances. To start with, it's only a 150. I still keep a 5.7ltr ICE for long (&...
