I had the same issue with my 2022 Maverick only it was rabbits. They chewed through a wire harness that rain across the rear axle.
I used a spray on rust inhibitor that I looked up online at the time unfortunately I don’t recall what it was called.

Seems like that recall is being ignored by the Ford App. I have it on mine and dropped off the app after the last update to the app. It is still active though. You can see it under recalls on the Ford Web Site with your vin.
